    Kenwood DNX571HD frozen

So, I have one of these kenwood units that freezes on the splash screen on powerup and wont advance further. doing some googling its kinda pointing to corrupt software which i suspected.

Trouble is, besides finding an update file from Kenwoods website, i cant really find any info on how to reflash this thing.

i saw some stuff on the 570 from @mixmansc, but the links are dead. Plus I dont know if it will work on a 571.

    Thoughts?

I'm no expert, but I wouldn't exclude that the GPS CPU needs reheating/reflowing.
I had the red LED w/fan on only, and by reflowing the daughterboard CPU, it turned on and working great.

Kenwood KR-6030 vintage stereo ,Old Man Trying to Save a Buck

Hello all. I'll try to keep this short. I have no knowledge of electronics. I can use a multimeter and am familiar with caps to some extent. I bought a Kenwood KR-6030 vintage stereo. It need work and so I thought I would recap the thing since I get power to the on switch but nothing else is working. No lights, no sound and so forth. I went to Mouser to order caps and I find I am way over my head. I not only do not know the type of capacitors I need but Mouser and digikey do not accept Kenwood part numbers. I have the info such as 220uF 63v and such but no place to put it. I could buy a recap...

Hisense 40H4F no backlight but turns off after splash screen
        by frannyjunk
So I have this Hisense tv where the backlight does not come on. But when it is turned on, when I shine a flashlight on the screen, I can clearly see the splash screen then it turns off. I looked at the mainboard and was expecting to see bulged capacitors, but they all look fine. I unplugged the backlight from the mainboard, and get the same symptoms (i.e. no backlight, dark splash screen then just a black screen). Is this just a backlight issues? Do Hisense tvs turn off by itself if the backlights are unplugged or are bad? Or is this a mainboard issue?

        TIA.

The Overseas Only Kenwood Model KR 790

I am Repairing this unit. It had many problems. One major one was the power transformer being about 4-5 volts low on the main B+ line which called for 66.5 Vols after the Main Filter caps but only showing about 62 Volts. Caps and the 5 amp Diode bridge were replaced which helped slightly.

The other strange problem was the small secondary winding from the PT which supplies 18 Volts AC to the "FM FLUORESCENT DISPLAY" circuit, and the small winding that supplies 8 Volts AC to the push button grain of wheat lamps. Those voltages were down from 18 Volts to 16 volts. Which was...

Does the Oak OTI067 have a splash screen / initialization message at bootup?
        by Scruit
tl;dr ... Question: Does the Oak OTI067 have a splash screen / initialization message at bootup?

        More detail:

Working on "Uncle Sherman", my Mitsubishi MP-3200 386 from 1988. Before I start up old computers I have a process where I disassemble, test for shorts, visually inspect, capture EPROM images etc.

My T866II+ give me a "pins not detected" error on the EPROM from the Oak-based (OTI067 GPU but apparently a no-name card??) I assumed the EPROM was bad, ordered a replacement and figured I'd program a downloaded ROM image to it....

Kenwood KR-A70 Receiver Balance changes with volume controls?
        by freethink
I have a Kenwood KR-A70 Receiver on the bench, and the digital volume control is acting very funky. When I adjust the volume, the balance also changes. Volume Up = balance goes Left, Volume Down = balance goes right. Has anybody ran into this issue, or know what the problem might be?
