My Yamaha C-65 pre-amplifier blew up!

Well, I got my pre down to the shop, and opened her up. Wow, does this thing smell bad! It has two obvious issues: the burned up portion of the PCB, which now appears cracked and one if not both of the mains caps look bloated. One main cap is much more bloated looking than the other. And I've seen main caps that just have a little bulge, but this one looks extreme compared to every one I have seen.

This was my headphone amplification. Any idea if I can bring her back? I don't have an issue making jumpers in the area the PCB cracked, but aside from aging components, I don't know what would have caused such a failure in such a low power device.

Looks like R145 & R147 burnt in the MC HEAD AMP circuit, tr117/119 are likely bad and maybe others in that circuit.
I would press down on the plastic on those caps, if they press down the caps are likely ok, if it seems they don't press down then the caps are bad.
      Manual is also here:

Those two transistors are completely cracked in half. But what would have caused this? Just age? I don't want to replace the components, and rework the traces to have them blow, again.

First find the original fault that caused the burnt components before blindly replacing parts. Start with the power supply section, but first remove any short circuits to isolate from the power supply.

If you do rebuild the the burnt section I suggest obtaining either some phenolic perfboard or copperclad board and rebuild onto that. You can move all the affected wiring to the new board when completed. May or may not look ghetto but should work.

Re: My Yamaha C-65 pre-amplifier blew up!

Hard to say what caused it, could have been as simple as a poor solder connection that upset the ballance and once one transistor shorts away they go, up in smoke.
The good news is there is an identical circuit in the other channel that you can compare to.
If C147 is ok and did'nt short it is likely the problem is limited to that mc head amp area only.
Remove the bad parts then check the other transistors and diodes, also check the resistors, they can sometimes look ok but be open or changed in value, again compare to the other channel.
That seems to be just for the phone input, with the blowen parts removed you should be able to check the rest of the amp, just not the Left phone input.
make sure the + and - voltage for that circuit is ok, looks like it should be around + & - 19 volts. it should be ok or the other channel would have smoked also.
check the resistors that supply the + & - voltage R275 and R276 (2.2ohm) if they are ok likely the power supply is ok

I assume that it must have something to do with the power supply stage as well because the unit powered down, and will not power back up.

Help Needed: Yamaha RX-V485 Network Issue After Firmware Update (WN9711 Error)

                Hi everyone,

I'm facing an issue with my Yamaha RX-V485 receiver. During a firmware update, the process failed, and now the USB, Bluetooth, and network functionalities are not working. Occasionally, the receiver displays the error code WN9711.

I came across Yamaha Technical Bulletin No. 0103, which describes a similar issue for models like the RX-V4A, RX-V6A, and RX-A2A. According to the bulletin, the issue can be resolved by shorting soldering points (e.g., J260 for RX-V4A or...

                Yamaha RX V675 sound issues
                by jjne
I have an old Yamaha RX V675 receiver which is starting to develop issues with the sound, although it doesn't quite match up with what folk normally report with these.

From cold, the sound cuts in and out. When this happens the amp is losing sync with the optical input (speaker graphic disappears from the front panel). But this is not resolved by putting the unit into pure direct mode. After a couple of minutes this resolves, although there are occasional clicks from the speakers after that.

At first I thought it was either a speaker relay or the DSP, but I don't think...

                YAMAHA CLP-550 without of sound
                by AlexVG
                Hi.
I have an old YAMAHA CLP-550 without sound. (Some times I can get some kind of noise or distorted sound)
I have replaced all green marked elements, but it gave me nothing.
The IC12 chip LC9116A-105 (red marked) remains under suspicion yet.

But it is custom YAMAHA's chip, and I can't find any information about it.
Maybe somebody came across with the same issue?
Any information will be very useful. I will be very appreciated.
                Thank you....

                Yamaha RX-A1020 full dead
                by hemant_2222
                Hello Everyone,

                Greetings!

It has been very long time that I opened up my garage again because I got something that I could not stop myself and this time I have a Yamaha RX-A1020 super powerful (at least from inside structure 😉 ) AV receiver. When this unit came to me this Saturday it was full of dust and what not but the standby LED blinked when pressed and power relay clicked once but no display. It worked 3 times after normal reset like other Yamaha receivers and then again it had to be unplugged to get his behavior back. I opened everything and cleaned it up and...

My yamaha Rxv-485 showing version error
                by sanalelevenstar
My friends Yamaha RXv-485 receiver has stopped communicating on network and Bluetooth, we decided to make a firmware update from USB stick but after a while it comes up with the message "unknown".... Its the latest 1.87 version we are trying to load and it seems like the is no firmware in it at the moment as it does not state the old version ?

Any ideas how to resolve this issue?
