Altech lansing pc speakers and subwoofer RIP? coil ohm values.

Altech Lansing pc speaker system gave in after 10+ years. A few pops in the sound and then... gone.
    ...but I love them.

I've opened up the subwoofer and looked in side. No mechanical problems, no weired smells or apparently blown caps.

Meassuring resistance on a fuse gives
    2 ohms.

    There's a transformer.
    Primary side 800k ohm
Secondary side 0.9 Ohm.... that seems wrong.

Is it possible for anyone to confirm that, That seems to be the problem?

There are no specifications on the transformer.

Why don't you measure the resistance directly between the minus and plus of the speaker ? , it should give between 4Ohms to 16 Ohms , depending on specific designs . This way you can narrow the culprit .

Primary = 800k? That sounds awfully close to "open" to me. Does the transformer have a thermal fuse in series with the primary, perhaps?

Secondary sounds about right (relatively low voltage, relatively high current, which is to say, not many turns of thick-ish wire).

That primary winding is gone, you are probably reading your body resistance.
Right now you probably do not have DC Voltage from that power supply.

          Thank you guys.

There's no power from the supply.

The speaker is ok. 4 ohms.

I'll look around for a new transformer. The only identification is a number '0237'. I dont suppose that's enough to go on. Perhaps I can find a diagram some where.

Forget the transformer and its markings. Just see what IC(s) are used for driving the speaker and what is the rated voltage of the filter caps - that should give you a good enough clue of what to use for the power supply output. You may even get away with a cheap switchmode adapter/PSU (like a laptop adapter) - or at least for testing. As far as current rating for the adapter/transformer - worst case scenario would be if you have a BTL chip driving the speaker. In such a case, take the input voltage and divide it by the voice coil static resistance, then add 25% to that value for safety margin. If the speaker has dual voice-coil, the current would be two times that amount.

Recapping Sony ICF-SW55 - verifying cap values
              by proxneo
              Dear reader

I am performing a repair on a Sony ICF-SW55, which includes recapping (some) of the SMD capacitors on the mainboard. I am looking for verification of their values. At the moment, I'm 95% sure I've got the right values, but it is hard to find some official, credible or multiple independant sources on this.

At the moment, I have selected replacements based on the following list of values:

              3 x 470uF 10VDC
              3 x 4.7uF 35VDC
              4 x 47uF 50VDC
              8 x 22uF 6.3 VDC
              1 x 220uF 6.3VDC
              5 x 100uF 6.3VDC

              Which...

Please help, subwoofer connected to tv, read description below
              by rustinjust
I've got a subwoofer that I've had for nearly 20 years, it did come with a basic remote which I've lost. It's a generic make of subwoofer, I can't see a brand sticker on it. It comes with 2 speakers.

Question recently I've connected it up to my tv which has greatly improved the sound on my tv, however I'd like to be able to mute the subwoofer when ads come on or just mute it when the phone rings etc. I tried using a cheap all in one tv remote on the subwoofer and the volume button would only work to increase volume but not turn it down or mute it

              Is there a way of...

How can I test coil whether it is really broken or not?
              by chth96
I have old game console which have connected to 220v outlet by previous owner and It is not able to turn on.

I checked continuity of fuse in PSU unit with a multimeter which is shown in the below picture with a orange circle around it, and It seems that fuse became open circuit.

I also found that as well as bulging capacitor, there is unidentified coil which has residue all over its surface

I want to replace this round black fuse and unidentified coil if it got broken.

I replaced all electrolytics in subwoofer, still get a hum in speakers - audio clip
              by Delicieuxz
I get a faint, low hum through my PC speakers, which connect to the subwoofer in a 2.1 speaker system. The hum drives me crazy and makes me stressed. When I turn off the subwoofer, everything is quiet and I start to relax, lol.

Here's an audio clip of the sound coming from my speakers:

              https://vocaroo.com/16HaryHwTx78

I recorded with my phone's mic right next to the speaker, and the mic picked up a lot of speaker noise over top of the hum. But I don't hear that noise in the room, I just hear the lower-pitched hum that's buried beneath all the other...
