    Pioneer VSX-41

    Hey all,

I just replaced a couple of caps on a Pioneer VSX-41 that I picked up for free. Now it sounds great, but the cooling fan is not running. Does anyone know if it is supposed to run full-time, or is there a heat threshold that needs to be reached before it is activated?

    Thanks in advance!

I believe, on an Onkyo there is 60 C threshold. Maybe the Pioneer works in a similar way.
On the Onkyo, there is an empty connector and I have transferred the fan there, to run constantly.

Thanks, I hope so. This model doesn't have a bottom access panel, so I pretty much had to clear the entire case to get at these caps. I don't relish the thought of having to do it again.

In my opinion, the 60C is way to hot. I can barely hold my hands on the top of the case. Heat dries out capacitors and can cause other problems.
I rather have a fan running all the time, then having issues in a year or two.
On another Onkyo, which did not have a fan build in, I have made a power USB harness(only + and -) and plugged it in, into my TV and I'm using a laptop cooler on top of the receiver. It would turn on and off with the TV. TV's USB port, turns off the power after a little while, not instantly.

The fan is electronicaly controled So it looks like it only comes on when needed.

Thanks for the responses. It certainly does create a good deal of heat, may have contributed to the cap failure. There was not a brand marking on the ones I replaced. I will look into a permanent cooling solution.

Can I see the bottom of the unit? Some of these Pioneer have perforate bottom cover that you need to nip off the fingers to remove the bottom cover, it was made like that for servicing.

This one doesn't seem to be designed that way. The perforations are under the fan and heat sink, not the board.

Pioneer PL-X9 motor speed control wobble
                        by Bushcat
I'm starting to re-cap a Pioneer PL-X9 turntable, specifically the motor control board, because although everything tests out OK according to the service manual, the speed wavers slightly despite the quartz lock light remaining on. So, I've decided to re-cap that board since it's the cheapest next step...

Pioneer's passive component naming convention is clear to me. For example, CSZA R22M 35 is tantalum, radial leads, 0.22uF, 20%, 35V.

BUT there are two capacitors on the board which have actual Pioneer part numbers: PCL-042. I can tell they are 0.1uF, 16V but don't...

[Help Needed] Yatour YT-M06 (Pioneer 1) – Firmware or Schematic Request
                        by EduCabral
                        Hi everyone,

I'm currently working on reviving a Yatour YT-M06 CD Changer Emulator module for use with a Pioneer 1 interface (specifically with a DEH-P5950IB head unit).

While the unit is recognized as a CD changer, none of the USB, SD, or AUX features respond, which leads me to believe the firmware may be corrupted or incompatible.

                        🔧 Details:
                        • Model: YT-M06

                        • Goal: Find a valid .bin firmware file or memory dump from a working unit

I'm happy to attempt flashing, analyzing memory dumps, or doing hardware-level...

Onkyo HT-R390 no sound output, video output ok
                        by FrancescoV
                        Good morning everyone,
I'm trying to repair an onkyo ht-r390 that has no sound output, despite the volume being at maximum, the rest seems to work; the video output signal (coming from an hdmi input) is present, but the audio is absent. Similar situation if I send an audio signal from any input I have no output.

The firmware reported is the following:
                        M:1.00/11107BLP
                        D:?.??/????????
                        O:1.00/11107AL

The DSP firmware given the question marks seems corrupt.

On the BCHDM-0678 - 25140678 - QPWBCHDM0678A0 board the chip that usually seems...

So far I have replaced the power supply board, and the digital assembly board, I have reconnected the ribbons to all boards, ensuring the connections are good. Even though the problem is the 8 red light error and not the more common 8 blue light error code, I had Kcrownie,

                        Pioneer VSX-44 receiver HDMI dropouts
                        by RatherLoopy
I have an older Pioneer receiver (VSX-44) that's been dropping the HDMI output (black screen) for a few seconds every few minutes. Setup is HTPC -> Pioneer DVD HCMI in -> Pioneer HDMI out -> Samsung TV HDMI in, all with cheap HDMI cables that have never caused trouble before..

I initially found a lot of play in the receiver's HDMI inputs and output so I kind of squeezed them back into shape and they're making a tighter connection, but the problem persists.

And also, often, the HDMI will drop out in exactly the same way (black screen) just as my central air...
