ancient thread but going back to my a.m building days and experiments you can add external antenna connections to the bar and also a grounding connection . just cant remember which taps it comes from now . also play with capacitors for sensitivity and selectivity .
i forgot some of it .was 46 years and more ago now .

Jack, you explained the solution perfectly. I took the radio apart and finally found the capacitor C921 on the back side of the board. It is about the size of a half grain of uncooked rice on the line that comes from the power transformer secondary.
I unsoldered it. I wanted to run an antenna wire from the capacitor but could not get the wire to solder to the capacitor. I gave that up and ran a Teflon coated antenna wire to a 1/8 inch mono phone jack that I installed in a hole I drilled above the vent hole. This kept it out of the way of the power cord wrapping place.
When I put the machine together the reception was so good that I decided against putting an antenna wire in.

Than you again for passing on your knowledge. C Don

Can you please tell me where the new antenna wire needs to be soldered! Photo!?

Hi. I have a Sony CDK50 under counter radio with identical problem, but interior is different enough that I cannot follow these instructions. Anybody have similar instructions for a Sony CDK50? Thank you.

Thanks for the great advice. I have a Sony under-mount AM/FM/CD player (Model ICF-CDK50) with weak FM signal. Following the advice to unwind the curl in the power cord (inside the unit) and make it a bit straighter outside the unit (and hidden under the cabinet), the FM reception improved dramatically. Thank you!

Can't thank you enough Jack. Terrific explanation and the fix worked very well. I would only add that the capacitor mentioned is on the underside of the circuit board.

Sony CFS-5000S radio cassette player no FM reception
                by mikey5791
                Hi forum members,

In the past i have had many helpful hints from generous forum members in diagnosing and solving issue related to most of my electrical things.

Fyi, i have been keeping this unit of Sony radio cassette player as the cassette belting has worn off but the radio has been working fine before. Recently, out of a sudden i found out i can't get any radio reception at all (no signal from FM,MW or SW band) except some buzzing warp noise from the speakers.

I opened the casing inside and checked for any dry solder, burned component or loose wires...

Vintage SONY Digital Clock Radio ICF-C12W no audio
                by UserXP
                Dear all,

I have this old radio clock by Sony from the early 80s, I guess. The clock display works, but is dim, the function board appears to be OK - but the radio unit shows no signs of life. It doesn't produce a single noise, crack or anything from either FM or AM band. It's like it doesn't even power up.
i opened the radio and it is full of some TRACON gray capacitors. They only have their negative strip printed, voltage and capacitace markings - no series, no temperature marking, nothing else.
My question is, do you know of this brand of capacitors and how bad are...

                clock radio / radio lifespan?
                by shelby5041
                hi
ive got a modern digital clock radio approx 15yrs old

my question is how long can a clock radio or a simple radio last ss farcas operating hours?

since elec components have limited hour lifecspan i would imagine the radio or clock radio would eventually fail.

the reason i ask is because i have my clock radio on radio function 24/7 for the past 7 years and its still working fine....i leave the radio on ..never turn off past 7years...thats approx 60000 hours

it uses very little power just a few watts i would imagine that may have something...

                Volvo HU850 Radio/CD-player repair, LDO-voltage regulator IC
                by slothen92
                Hello

Im trying to repair the Volvo HU850 radio/CD-player from a Volvo V70.
I have ordered replacements for the four transistors (SD1760), but Im not sure about a replacement for the low dropout voltage regulator IC (marked by the red circle in the attached picture).
On the body of the IC it says: “LF33AH GK133544”.

Does anyone know where to find this part or a replacement for it?

                Cheers

Sony DVD player stuck tray (DVP-SR310P)
                by bogosort

                Hello,

I have a Sony DVD player with a stuck tray. It seems that moving or pressing on the tray makes it work.

                Anyone knows why?

                Thank you....
