The switch is only connected to the primary, not the secondary

it looks like the led connects

Re: Is it possible for transformer substitution?

The blue lead from the positive terminal connects to one lead of the led, the other lead of the led likely has a resistor inside the insulated tube that connects to the negative terminal. the three blank terminals on the other half of the switch don't connect to anything.

BTW a so-called Dim Bulb Tester is the most excellent test unit to see if the transformer is still any good.
Connect a 60W incandescent lamp in series with the primary (or in parallel with the burnt fuse) and see if it lights up when you plug it in (with no load on the output). If it doesn't glow, the transformer may still be good. If it doesn't glow and then you short the output of the PSU (the red and black terminals) and then it starts glowing, then your transformer may still be very operational.

If it lights brightly with no load on the output of the PSU, do not pass go, do not collect $200, transformer probably belongs in the bin.

Is there any danger of accidentally eletrocuted from a wet finger touching the same switch handling mains and secondary? Kindly advice any better way to modify this setting.

You should always exercise caution regardless, but as R_J said, the switch is half-used and only on the primary side.

is dodgy as fuck using that type of switch with mains, the clearance between the contacts and metal frame is way too small

Re: Is it possible for transformer substitution?

                    Dear all,
With helpful assistance and kind tips with schematic and lots of patience, i finally unsolder the donor transformer from the burned pcb and moved it to the kent unit. Put in an incandescent light bulb in place of the 3A glass fuse, and switched on the main. The light bulb doesn't glow, no smoke or spark and i set the front switch to 12v. The led indicator lights on, and measuring the output gives a reading of 16.2vdc.
Wow, thanks so much guys. Finally you made me a happy guy today. This forum has been a great source for helping those in need in getting things fixed and therefore reduce waste in the landfill.
                    Bravo!

Next you need to mod it so that it actually regulates voltage down to a common value... like this supposedly commercial but may well be homemade PSU: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=110815

                          Original Xbox 1.0 PSU: Foxlink FTPS-0002 Rev. B. — 12 V low, 5 V high — transformer?
                          by ohren
                          Hello!

I'm looking at an original Xbox PSU: Foxlink ftps-0002 rev. B. The 12 V output is too low, and the 5 V output is too (?) high. Unfortunately I don't have an oscilloscope but only a DMM for diagnosis.

                          Measured voltages with no load:

                          After rectifier diodes
                          12V: 6.17 V
                          5V: 5.67 V

Secondary transformer pins AC measurement (really don't know if this says anything)
                          12V: 2-2.5 V
                          5V: 1.04 V

I also have another (working) Xbox psu from Delta. The same measures there, in order, being: 10.79,...

                          3PHASE STEP-DOWN Transformer in Check
                          by dennis_elx33
                          Hello All,

i would like to post an interesting topic regarding 3-phase stepdown transformer which we suspect to cause an overcurrent (138A) which resulted to power tripped off of the HV power supply (80KV output).

                          Problem statement: Power tripped Off

Initial Problem: Found 2 IGBT and 2 rectifier diodes shorted (burnt).

                          Action Done:
                          1) Replaced the faulty parts with good spare.
                          2) Measured impedance of the 3phase input lines and found that L2 to L3 has 23.3ohm while other pairs are 51Kohm. This pins will...
