How do I test a UA7805CKCS which i believe is a type of voltage regulator. My component tester has a problem with it for some reason so I need another was of testing it with a multimeter if that's possible.

Re: How to test a UA7805CKCS component
Looking at the device schematic its a voltage regulator on a chip and quite complicated, your probably better removing it and testing with and psu and measuring output properties. Or simply replace the device as they are very cheap to buy, what is the rest of the circuit doing or not doing and can you post pictures please. -
Re: How to test a UA7805CKCS component
2) With the device still in place and no power applied, check the resistance between GND pin and the Input pin, GND and the Output pin. If the resistance shows <10 Ohms or so then you may have problem.
3) Apply power to the board and check the Voltage between GND pin and the Input pin, between GND pin and the Output pin. Notes: the input Voltage should be about 3 ~ 5V higher than the Output Voltage spec, in this case it is 5V regulator so the input shout be around 8V or so.

Re: How to test a UA7805CKCS component
A quick way, use a 9v battery between ground & input, check for 5v output between ground and output pin.
better test use a 9 volt input, + to in, - to ground, on the output connect a 10ฮฉ 3watt between ground & output with a .1 ~ 10ยตf across the resistor, this will test the regulator at 500maComment

Re: How to test a UA7805CKCS component
Thanks that very informative and interesting info everyone its a great help. This comes out of a 1980's vintage Apricot keyboard which has been giving me some problems. I recently bought 5 of them as you say they are cheap. I was just interested in why i couldnt test it. Many thanks.Comment

3+1 Voltage Regulator for IMVP-7/VR12 CPUs
Compliant with IMVP-7/VR12, the ISL95831 provides a complete solution for microprocessor and graphic processor
core power supply. It provides two Voltage Regulators (VRs) with three integrated gate drivers. The first VR can be
configured as 3-, 2- or 1-phase VR while the second output is 1- phase VR, providing maximum flexibility. The two VRs share the
serial control bus to communicate with the CPU and achieve lower cost and smaller board area compared with the two chip approach.

by playithello ,for diy voltage injector for short killer/finder -- is it possible to use something like this - LM317 DC Linear Regulator, DC-DC 4.5~40V Turn 1.2~37V, Step Down Power Module, Adjustable

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?by Tynan DillI was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.
Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.
I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.
The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.
With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

by artvandalaiThis Concept 2 rower pm5 monitor doesn't shut down. It keeps turning on and stays on after being turned off. I read on another forum by another user that replaced the same component to check the voltage regulator.
The monitor should pull around 35mA when turned on and in shutdown it should drops to around 0.060mA. Any advice on finding the voltage regulator on this board to check if it needs to be replaced?

This is my first attempt at troubleshooting a board like this, I know I could just buy a new board but I'm curious to figure out how this works. I've been testing different components in the evenings this week and I think the problem is with the IC failing to start up for some reason. When the board is plugged in there is no standby voltage.
Then today it randomly sprung to life like a zombie but shortly died thereafter. I have no idea why it would have done that and its the first time I've seen it running. I discharged capacitors on the board last night, then it was sitting today.... - Loading...
