Ebay DPS Power supply module current draw?

Good day folks. Some of you may know that a while back I got myself one of those power supply modules you see on banggood, aliexpress and just about any other online shopping website. I powered the thing off a UPS transformer and I'm very pleased with the results...built a nice oversized enclosure for it and it's running quite happily. Today I wanted to test its limits a bit, to see what it can put out, so I took a wrench and shorted the output terminals together and raised the voltage to 1v. It went into constant current mode immediately, since even at 1v it would've exceeded the maximum 15A it's designed to carry - after all, the resistance of the wrench was extremely low, it's a solid piece of steel (or whatever it's made out of ). The display showed 15A indeed, at about half volt, so roughly 6-7w total.
This is when I noticed something strange: I took my clamp meter and wrapped it around one of the wires coming from the bridge rectifier into the input of the PSU module and it only showed 3A, even though the display said 15...:| What is going on ? Is this a SMPS and the input current doesn't match the load current, or am I completely oblivious to something ? I'm pretty sure there's no way you can draw 15a on one side and only 3a on the other.....or is there ? I think we're talking about a SMPS...what do you guys think ?

So what is the DCV at the output of the bridge rectifier feeding the module? 2 ~3V?

      It's 48v from the transformer.

So the total load is drawing 3A from 48V power supply, 3A at 48V = 144W of power and you are dissipating 6 ~ 7 W on the load connected to the module, that is lots of losses. The meter on the module is showing the current on the load side.

Yes, but why is the current draw so low on the diode side and maxed on the output side ? Shouldn't it be the roughly the same ?

You have input/output conversion so the current on the load side that is being measured will not be the same as the input side.

Re: Ebay DPS Power supply module current draw?

yes, voltage is converted to current - or the other way around - depending on if it's a buck or a boost design.

                example:
                you say it's 48v input.
assuming no losses (bullshit) if your output is 12v then your current increases x4

Re: Ebay DPS Power supply module current draw?

I reckon it's a buck converter configuration, since it converts a high input voltage to a low one and cannot exceed the input, so it's not a booster.
What about linear PSUs ? X amps drawn on the output would mean the same (if not slightly higher) draw on the diode side too ?

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

                    Cyberpower 1500AVR UPS repair
                    by quickname
I'd like to start out by thanking this forum for providing the info to be able to repair my 15 year old CP1500AVRLCD UPS. Here is all the info I gathered during my trouble-shooting and re-capping.

Like clockwork, I've had to replace the SLA batteries every 4 years. It was about that time and the UPS was acting like it needed new batteries... randomly shutting off with AC present, not being able to charge fully, and poor runtime when AC was removed. So, I replaced the batteries but noticed that it was not charging properly.

I decided to verify that the batteries were...

                    by duwane
                    Hi All.

I have an 820-02016 board (A2337 M1) that has come in for data recovery. Reported as liquid damage, but no visible evidence of any liquid damage.

Board was initially stuck at 5v, and current only spiking occasionally to around 400mA and cycling.

After initial troubleshooting, found that C7800 (which feeds the power rail PP5V_BSTLQ_VOUT_SPMU) was dead short to ground.

Replaced C7800 and short gone. Board still stuck at 5v. Current draw behaviour changed. It now spikes up for a second to around 100mA to 130mA, then drops down to...
