Double din car stereo freezes with GPS use

    Model # fba-2531gnn

This is a friend's and the problem is the entire unit freezes and becomes inoperable only when the external gps antenna is installed.

Would this be an antenna fault or gps circuit? Connected to an adjustable power supply the current draw jumps up when the antenna is installed compared to normal draw when it's not

Re: Double din car stereo freezes with GPS use

There's three different kinds of car GPS "antennas":

    1. RF antenna only, coax feed to GPS receiver in double DIN.
    2. Active antenna, 2 or 3 wires, its an antenna with built in amplifier.
    3. Integrated module with GPS antenna and receiver. These output TTL serial data and usually take 5V power in; 3 wires. Most popular.

Water can get in and short out #2,#3.

What does the double DIN connect to?

I would say the power may be loaded down, GPS takes 100-200mA roughly.
Or the GPS receiver has corrupt configuration. Default is usually 4800,N,8,1 with NMEA format. You can connect a PC and terminal with level shifter and see the data stream.
If the baud rate is bad, garbled data may crash the double DIN.
Some GPS settings are stored in the receiver's EEPROM, or NVRAM. There is sometimes a little coin battery to keep the ephemeris saved for faster sat. lock.

It's a coax style antenna. Can they fail causing the freeze up or it would be internal to the radio

Re: Double din car stereo freezes with GPS use

Can't see an ordinary RF antenna problem crashing a radio.
I think only an active antenna can use coax and be able to crash the double din radio. Check for a short on the antenna coax or see what voltage the radio has on the connector before you plug in the antenna. Looks like the antenna to me.

An active antenna has a built in preamp yet only two wires: GND and combined signal+power. Something called a "bias-tee" separates the RF signal and power, inside the receiver.

I measure 0 ohms from center terminal to outside. Does that mean it's shorted?

Re: Double din car stereo freezes with GPS use

Yes that coax is crushed! slammed in the trunk. Active antenna should not read zero ohms. If the antenna comes apart, maybe cut off damaged piece and solder back onto the PCB.
It is possible to put GPS antenna inside the car, under the dash or rear deck.

It appears maybe a moderator merged that thread into this one. It's now shown in post #6

Question on the antenna. Can I use an universal replacment? Can't find any specs on this one, can't open the model to attempt soldering the wire. Found this on eBay:

i would cut the wire beyond the squashed bit and see if it still looks shorted .. then maybe do a tidy fix with a new plug and socket

Hello everyone, i got this mobo for long time, now i decided to rearrange some hardware and build a office pc, but 1 week so far, this motherboard drives me crazy.

                          What is the issue:
PC freezes randomly. While loading win, while installing win, while in windows , and just once did it while in bios.

                          Hardware:
                          MSI B450 Gaming Plus Max , MSI A320m A-pro
                          BIOS : 7B86vHG - latest

                          Single-channel antenna?
                          by Hondaman
Recently I switched from my Gray-Hoverman to the Antennas Direct ClearStream 4 MAX. Seems to work about as well as the old G-H in my attic (one-story ranch home), but the Antennas Direct unit can be mounted outside on my chimney if desired.

I should mention that I was also using a 29-inch "T" shaped antenna for RF channel 11. I know you're not supposed to use TWO antennas unless they have the same length coaxial cable going into your combiner (and even then there might be problems). So I made sure the cables were equal length.

                          Years ago I made a "T"...

I need a source for this type of double sided tape adhesive please.

LCD displays a 2nd image slighty offset vertically. And multiple pairs of black lines along the bottom. Probably common as google "TCL 49S405 double image" pulls up this ifixit post ( link ) with identical ( nearly, but their fault seems to be on the other half of the panel than mine ) problem without solution.

This one looks to be a more difficult to diagnose because most? of TCON seems integrated ( CSOT BGA on buffer baord) into the left panel edge board ( looking from rear of TV) There are 2 buffer boards for each 1/2 of the screen. Main connects to the left buffer board...
