Sunlight hits the strips, which are made from polyethylene trash bags, and is converted into thermal energy.
I still don't understand why wheel is turning? By heat? I know the solar strip get hot but does not mean wheel will turns?

Kinda neat. It's from
Popular Science Feb. 1980 article!
The future looked so good in that magazine.
I guess the theory of operation is the stretched-out strips of polyethylene (from garbage bags) shrink in the heat and stretch in the cool (shade). So the whole rotor is warped and you get 50RPM.
