I have a small Sophos XG86w firewall here, which is still working so far. But there is a problem with the BIOS and the DMI environment variables.
The hardware forgets the date and time after a reboot or a power failure.
The DMI environment variables are also reset to default values.
I have now tried 2 different batteries (CR2032).
I reset the DMI vars via an EFI shell and with AMIDEEFI64 (v5.21.0057).
However, after a reboot or a power cycle, these values are reset again.
It is an Apollo Lake platform with an Intel...

Repair Sophos APX120 - 3.3V LDO Marking
Hello, I am looking for help with the identification of an SMD LDO in SOT-26 or TSOT-26 design.
The APX120 no longer has a 3.3V voltage.
The LDO still seems to be working as you can still hear the switching frequency (where I can with my old ears).
I can make out FN5FVT as a marking.
On a second one it says FN5FST.
Does anyone know the manufacturer of the LDO?

The DUT draws 2.4A, it looks like the current is limit somehow.
For a Voltage of .4V the resistance must be arround 0.17 Ohms.

i have a Siglent 1305X with 30V @ 5Amps max, i had the Voltage Limit at 1V and Current Limit is at 5A.
At the time i purchased this i wasn´t clear if i would need 30V/5A (so i would have 19V available) or i need the 16V/8A Modell...
Maybe i need a short killer
I soldered a cable to PJ802 and connected at several GND locations.
PSU showed Output @ 0.4V and at 2.4A (I controlled this with a Fluke too).

Hi,
i have a E490 with NM-B911 (ThinkPad E490 14" Intel i5-8265u).
Notebook doesn´t start, Shift LED and Power LED is lit.
SSD, HDD, Memory is fine (tested these external).
PU801 gets extrem hot.
Other compents getting warm (CPU i5, SSD, Memory Module)
So i removed PJ802 Bridge.
These Voltages of PU801 (RT9059GQW)
+1.8VALW
+3.0VALW
+5.0VALW
are fine and it stays cold.
If i inject +1V/5A at PJ802 nothing get´s hot on the board.
PSU Drops to 0.4V and... -
Dell Precision 3660 - BIOS Image, Hidden Settings, Thermal Settings ?
I got my self a new Dell Workstation (Dell Precision 3660, i5-13500).
Unfortunately, Dell has fixed the front fan´s settings in the BIOS.
Both the speed and the presence of the fan are fixed.
There seems to be no hidden setting.
The thermal tables for the speeds were changed in one of the last BIOS updates.
Do you see a possibility to change these tables from the BIOS update file?

After long time, i retried this Thinkpad.
I took the board out and examined the backside, nothing obvious.
So i powered the board and the board didn´t shutdown as usual.
The Power LED was solid, i had picture.
So finally i attached an HDMI monitor.
The Board was self healing the bios and restarted a few times.
But it has a bad CRC in security settings and i must enter the bios.
But the thinkpad has Supervisor Password...Leave a comment:

Thanks , so far.
I found some sparetime to check this L13.
I measured most of the Power Rails and they are fine.
The L13 starts, the fan spins, the Charge LED lights a few times and a melody can be heard. Next it shut´s off.
I tried Lenovo PC Diagnostics, but the code is unknown.
At the Audio Ports, i found some caps, that seem to be shorted to ground.
But i am not shure if this is a short between Analog and Digitral Ground.
Can someone liste to the melody and give some advice?

Hi,
i have a Thinkpad L13 Gen 2 20VH that doesn´t start.
With powersupply it starts for a few seconds and shut off.
The same with battery only.
The keyboard lights up, ESC + F1 + F4 + CapsLock is lit and it plays some smartbeeps (011000). I used an Android Emulator with Lenovo PC Diagnostics, but the smartbeeps code is not available.
After the smartbeep played, the ESC is lit for a second and the thinkpad shutsdown.
USB-C Tester show 19.5V and no current.

Thinkpad L480 , Power On ONLY without CMOS Battery
Hi,
i have a second L480 that had some Liquid Damage (USB-C and Ports on left). The LCD has Coffee on the left side (barely visible).
It had some Coffee spilled, the notebook was in a bag, when the thermos leaked.
The book was fine for a while and still worked, so i used this a reference when measuring voltages.
The book powered on with Power Button and was fine.

Thinkpad L480 , Short To Ground, CPU gets Hot
Hi,
i would like to hear your thoughts.
This is my first attempt to repair a broken ThinkPad.
I got a Thinkpad L480 with no power or any sign of life.
I checked Memory Module, WiFi Module and Display, all are fine.
I have Schematics and Board View.
The L480 has no LED and the fan is not spinning or moving with the USB-C PSU (65W).
I measured all Coils and all i have is
+5VALW with 5V
+3VALW with 0V
I opened PJ202 and i get +3V at +3VALW.
So i checked... -

what would be the next step to find Short to Ground at L480?
I have +5VALW but +3VALW ist 0V.
I removed PJ202 and get +3VALW at PL201.
Beyond PJ202 i have a short to Ground (about 0 Ohms with Fluke 179 in Diode Mode)...
Should i inject 1V 1Amp at PJ202 and see what getting hot?
The USB-C Port has a very bad connector, i need to wiggle a bit with the Connector ...

Hi,
i might get a faulty Legion Y720 Notebook.
The Notebook has an ESD Error.
With external Fan´s the notebook is useable.
The owner tried to swap HDD vs SSD and had an ESD discharge.
These are the errors
