Flir dm284 imaging multimeter would it be worth the cash outlay

Hi all i got a email this morning from flir, show casing this super duper multi meter. i looked into some flir camaras a few years back, and with a price tag of a small deposit of a house in uk, look was all i could do. my question to all is has anyone got one of these and was it worth the cash outlay,i havent even looked at the price.yet becase i know its going to be, a shit load of money anything with this type of imaging allways is.i do know that it comes with some very good software programs for taking an image of say a 50" plasma with the back off you could take stock picture of a tv in perfect working order and it will put the tempriture of every hot spot in the picture like all chips on the control board would have its own tempriture in the picture then it could be uploaded to a forum like this one ware all could use the picture for refrance to help diagnose a tv of the same model for those who can afford the tech i was wanting to get any opinions of is this the best idea since sliced bread or is this going to be an expencive piece of kit that never gets used was hoping the USA has some feed back on it as if its brand new hear the the yanks must allready have had it a wileany feed back on it from anyone would be very help full as im a one man band and its going to be a big out lay which is ok if its going to cut my diagnose time in half but i have enough expencive toys that looked good in a advert HELP MY HEAD IS SAYING GOT HAVE GOTA HAVE ONEhttp://www.flir.co.uk/instruments/dm...-DM284-EMEA-UK

I've worked with airborne flir before. The military kind. It used refrigerant to cool the detector. The turret was nicknamed R2D2 because it was huge and cylindrical. Tore a muscle in my back lifting one in the desert. Bugger was heavy. Don't think that's what your talking about though.

Emissivity is the measure of an object's ability to emit infrared energy. Emitted energy indicates the temperature of the object. Emissivity can have a value from 0 (shiny mirror) to 1.0 (blackbody). Most organic, painted, or oxidized surfaces have emissivity values close to 0.95.

      Thermographic camera
A major difference with optical cameras is that the focusing lenses cannot be made of glass, as glass blocks long-wave infrared light. Special materials such as Germanium or Sapphire crystals must be used. Germanium lenses are also quite fragile, so often have a hard coating to protect against accidental contact. The higher cost of these special lenses is one reason why thermographic cameras are more costly.

Fluke also has one, I think it's the same sensor used in your Flir DMM.
And also the same in the Flir One smartphone addon.

I'm considering getting one myself but I think the Smartphone one might be a better option, seeing as there is quite fast development with these small sensors...

How To Test a P-channel Trench Mosfet Using A Multimeter In Diode Mode
            by dj8452000
I am new to electronics and I'm understanding most of what I'm reading but I have a mosfet on my board that I've identified as a P-channel Trench Mosfet. I haven't a clue how to test this and what I should expect to see with the multimeter probes. I am hoping someone with years more experience than myself can help me understand how to use a multimeter to read this. Please look at the drawing I have attached to this and can you try to explain to me what I should be doing with my multimeter in diode mode and what results I should expect from a good mosfet?...

            Craftsman 82345 Multimeter broke!
            by trex66
My daily carry just stopped working only me. Started last week with the voltage flickering. Found one lead was broken and I ordered new ones. New leads didn't change anything, it displays “-1” on all settings but on continuity will give the tone when touching. Checked battery and found the fuse blown. Replaced fuse but same results. Cleaned the dial and led display and its parts. Board looks nice and clean no burned or broken components. Nothing traumatic happened to this multimeter I put it aside when I found the lead broken and didn't touch it until I got the neAnyone have any ideas what's...

            Seeking Guidance on Motherboard Diagnostics
            by SarcasticOP
            Hello everyone!

I hope this is the correct place to post this, if not please let me know and I will post in the appropriate location.

I'm venturing into the intricate world of board repair within electronics, and I'm reaching out to this community for some guidance and shared wisdom. I have tried to do some research myself and find this information on my own, but I don't know what I don't know, and that is really starting to become an insurmountable issue that I cannot overcome. The only person I had nearby that I could turn to passed away recently so I do not have anyone...

Help to identify components / find schematics on a Flir Scout TKX board
            by dbuergi
            Hi all,

i got a Flir scout where a connector was ripped off and i will have to make new pads. One big problem i have right now is that 2 small smd components are missing near the pads and i was only able to find a comparable pic of this part of the board.
So right now i need to know what i need exactly for a replacement and the values. I contacted Flir by mail but they don't give out schematics and told me that i can use the guarantee if i have it (funny guys).
Anybody has an idea what i can do?

Things not to do with a multimeter?
            by Sofian75
I started to learn laptop repair a few weeks ago, since then I ve ordered several dead laptops to try to fix them and learn.
I fixed some of them and some I ve made things worse by blowing components.
Every time while taking measurements with my multimeter.

Yesterday I was working on a dell laptop motherboard, I was checking the charge IC for short in diode mode and it killed the chip.

So my question is are there things I should not do with my multimeter?
Or measurements I should do only with the charger and battery unplugged?...
