    BBQ Ignitor

Anybody know how much voltage a BBQ grill igniter module should put out?

What size battery does it use?

It's usually a few thousand volts or so, depending on the gap between the spark electrodes - similar to what you'd see in car ignition but much slower recycle speed is needed. I'm surprised it doesn't use a piezoelectric igniter to do away with the battery (my portable butane stove is like this...)

Thanks eccerr0r. I would say this one is toast then. It has a fresh battery in it, so I know that is not the problem. I checked it after posting, and it is putting out about 260 mV.

I checked it with this, and knew right off it was around 260 mV........

                lol

find the module, you may be able to get into it and change the cap.

It is sealed with whatever they use that looks like its poured in.

If it's sealed, it either sparks or doesn't spark. If it's the latter, it's dead, no multimeter needed

Well you know, I just had to cut it open. It has a whole 4 parts in it. None of which can be accessed. New one on the way.

                        Oven DSI igniter cleaning?
                        by caphair
My oven has been randomly turning on when selecting bake. Broil works fine as well as the stove top heaters.

Checked and noticed the ignitor doesn't ignite. Read that sometimes cleaning the tip can help. Which I did but now it ignites inconsistently

My question, should you only clean the very tip or entire rod? I'm guessing this works similar to a spark plug as the cage has a little “pointer” that acts as a ground for the spark to travel back to?

Would bending that little ground tab closer to the rod help with spark if it's still acting up and...

                        Hi,

I have a 6 years old Rowenta table top oven. The oven have both convection and grill function.
Last Christmas I used it to roast a turkey with the convection mode for about 4 hours without any problem. When I switched to grill mode to deep browning the turkey for the final half hour, the power trips after a while.

I have not been using the oven since then. Last week, when I try to use the oven again, both convection and grill mode trip the power supply a few minutes after turning it on.

As I was too busy with my work, I leave it to the repairman...

Seasonic Focus Gold+ 750 watt "Hybrid Switch" not working
                        by bigbeark
I bought this PSU used and it was working great. So quiet! Then I noticed the fan was not spinning at all. There is a push button on-off switch beside the Main rocker On-Off switch.
This push button switch is to allow the fan to operate full time or allow the fan to turn itself on and off as needed. The Full-time position is where the button is pushed in and stays in a depressed position to allow the fan to operate continuously. The default position where the button is "out" is for the fanless operation.

The button will not stay in the depressed down position.When...

                        CDI or Igniter box repair
                        by dungbeetle
Has anybody figured out a good way to remove the epoxy or whatever they use when they make a CDI or Igniter box so you can replace a faulty part inside? I have an old igniter from a motorcycle and from what I researched, the capacitor is what usually fails in them.
                        Thanks,

Bad heating element, or something else ?
                        by guix
                        Hello!

I have a problem with a multi function electric oven Whirlpool MT66 which is at least 10 years old, it can do microwave, grill, and "pulsed heat".

When I use this "pulsed heat" mode (a fan with a circular heater at the back of the oven), it will trip the RCD, but not really randomly, so I doubt that it's the heating element!

Apparently, I can repeat this scenario indefinitely: I preheat at 200°C, or 250, for 10 minutes... When countdown reach 0:00, RCD trips. I reset the RCD, insert food in the oven and turn it on again...
