Re: copper or tin plated wire terminals
I think you are right about this. It started out I had some cheap aluminum ones mixed in with my good ones. Then I went out looking for copper ones and mentioned to the sales people the word aluminum and we all were fooled by the color. I bought some from rat shack and they soldered fine. I guess being sick all week will suffice for my excuse.

Re: copper or tin plated wire terminals
I found this link that at least tells you what you are getting:
Ace terminals
Not the right size but unlike the first link they at least tell you what they are made of. I guess I will try the magnet trick and check some more when I go to the next bigger town in a day or two...
Thanks,

Re: copper or tin plated wire terminals
I realize to remove the plastic first and you may be correct that those work and are what I am looking for but as I stated earlier, I went to 6 stores locally and everyone of them only had aluminum in the spade type for 14 awg wire.
Thanks,

Re: copper or tin plated wire terminals
Too much for what I need. I always used to solder to my terminal I had on hand but now all the stores carry aluminum crimp-ons. I just need a source to replenish my stock.

Re: copper or tin plated wire terminals
Hi,
Those are definitely copper but a little high priced I would guess. I should really call All Electronics as suggested by the first response just to be 100% sure they are not all aluminum like every store in town sells nowadays. I guess tinned and solderable or copper is what I need. Thanks for the link though as I may have to use it.

No, Those are the kind that everybody sells. I am looking for the type I can solder my wires to. Like the good old days with copper terminals.
Thanks though,

copper or tin plated wire terminals
Does anybody know where to buy these in the states anymore? It seems everything is solderless aluminum terminals and connectors. I am looking for some "Y" spade type crimp and solder type for 14 AWG wire.
Thanks,
db

where can I get 1800uf 6.3v 10x16 caps?
I need to find some especially the 16mm height as they are by the fan retention clamps. I found them in 20mm height but am having trouble finding the short ones. Or what substitute(s) would work.
Thanks,

Re: CDI or Igniter box repair
Isn't DMSO pretty hazardous stuff? Or am I thinking of something else? Good tip on the fiberglass supplier (didn't think of that). I found a spare that was good on ebay so the bike is now running again but I still want to try to fix the old one for practice.
Thanks,

Re: Samsung Color TV help
Thanks for the info...I am hoping it will be something simple like that. I will report back after I get the big heavy tv off of the tall dresser (need help) and open it up.

Samsung Color TV help
Bad year for tv problems. We had lighting strike near the house and then realized the next day the our Samsung TX-R2735 CRT TV won't turn on anymore. The power never went out nor was anything else messed up so we are not sure if the lightning even had anything to do with it. Anyway, what should I look for to see if its repairable as its out of warranty. What part would fail with a surge if that is what it was that caused the problem? The tv was off but plugged in...
Thanks,

CDI or Igniter box repair
Has anybody figured out a good way to remove the epoxy or whatever they use when they make a CDI or Igniter box so you can replace a faulty part inside? I have an old igniter from a motorcycle and from what I researched, the capacitor is what usually fails in them.
Thanks,

Re: Lightning surge Panasonic TV help
Thanks to all the help I got here the tv is working again...Seems the lightning messed up a filter from the cable company as the neighbor had them over yesterday. The guy climbed the pole and messed with it and now all is normal. The funny thing is that the other tv seemed unaffected by the problem so it must be a better tv. Weird.
Thanks again,
db

Lightning surge Panasonic TV help
We had a storm last night and the tv was on. The power went out momentarily 2 or 3 times. No big deal. Today it seems the cable channels in the 50 range are more fuzzy than the others. Our other tv is perfectly clear. Is it possible that its an easy component fix or more likely a board replacement for the channels? I never knew that just some of the channels could be affected but that seems to be the case. Its a cable ready tv.
Thanks

Re: Substitute capacitance
I've got the electronics basics down alright. I just float from different hobbies to keep life interesting Seems I always like computers the best but need the other hobbies for a break I don't think I will make a career of it but I like to be able to fix my own stuff and maybe a friend or two. Or even get some good deals on thrown out motherboards My soldering skills are ok and I have found when they weren't it was because of using cheap or junk equipment. When my Weller 1002 was working I could solder good. When I used a cheap RatShack...

Re: Substitute capacitance
starfury1: Thanks for the added info. The more info the better I am going to get some Samxon's too as so far from what I read, they are worth a try. Eventually I will have some from all the good caps list as I like collecting repair parts so I have enough on hand for immediate use. I prefer to use the correct and quality parts so thats why all the questions. I have read a lot of the forums but there is always a question or two that remains. I ordered an ESR meter (still waiting on it to arrive) and got my new soldering equipment so soon I will...
