    CDI or Igniter box repair

Has anybody figured out a good way to remove the epoxy or whatever they use when they make a CDI or Igniter box so you can replace a faulty part inside? I have an old igniter from a motorcycle and from what I researched, the capacitor is what usually fails in them.
    Thanks,

Remember when I used to live in Brisbane. A guy there was doing that with outboard CDI units which are very expensive. A good place to start would be a polyester resin (fibreglass) supplier. If they do not know, they might point you to a factory rep who could help.

Isn't DMSO pretty hazardous stuff? Or am I thinking of something else? Good tip on the fiberglass supplier (didn't think of that). I found a spare that was good on ebay so the bike is now running again but I still want to try to fix the old one for practice.

Actually its relatively nonhazardous, the LD50 oral(rat) is ~17,000mg/kg. It used to be used as a massage aid for body builders. The only bad side to that is when it is absorbed through the skin it causes severe halitosis (bad breath), hence most stopped using it. Otherwise its not to bad, I don't use it too often as a solvent in MY lab because it typically rips my compounds to shreds.

MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) for DMSO

            Black Epoxy on bios chip
            by javieromex
Hi friends, I have a Lenovo E14 Gen 2 Type 20TA laptop with serial number MJ-0GWZSZ TYPE 20TA-002CUS. Intel Core ™ i5-1135G7. It has Winbond 25R256JVEQ BIOS which has black epoxy resin. I have 2 questions. What method do you use to remove the epoxy? and the second, what chip do you use to program it if you have the TL866 II Plus programmer? Thanks in advance.

What is something that is decent for gluing a heat sink to a IC's package (vram chip in this case)

by decent i mean a good price/performance ratio, not extremely expensive or horrible performance

            Motorcycle flasher mystery.
            by roadrash
usually get help on here for computers and monitors etc but I thought you guys are the best I can think off to help me solve a real mystery.
I have a Honda NT650V bike and recently fitted a towbar to tug a little trailer sometimes.
Everything was good until I connected up the trailer socket.
The problem is whenever I use the direction indicators/flashers it causes a misfire as soon as I cancel the flashers the misfire stops. The bike without the trailer lights attached is fine.
.So far Ive tried the following:
            1) I replaced the battery for a higher A/h original...

            Oven DSI igniter cleaning?
            by caphair
My oven has been randomly turning on when selecting bake. Broil works fine as well as the stove top heaters.

Checked and noticed the ignitor doesn't ignite. Read that sometimes cleaning the tip can help. Which I did but now it ignites inconsistently

My question, should you only clean the very tip or entire rod? I'm guessing this works similar to a spark plug as the cage has a little “pointer” that acts as a ground for the spark to travel back to?

Would bending that little ground tab closer to the rod help with spark if it's still acting up and...

Honda CX500 Motorcycle CDI ignition unit
            by roadrash
Hi everyone. Not a old computer monitor this timer its something a bit different.
This is a CDI ignition unit from a 1980 Honda CX500.
In 1980 all Japanese bike starting replacing the mechanical contact breaker points ignition system with these fully electronic Capacitive discharge units. But trouble is like all electronic components they fail with age and these CDI units are are no longer available. That's progress they say ??? Luckily I found a second hand one thats still working miraculously so can use that to get readings from.
Not just that but these CDI units are placed...
