My question: Do LEDs always fail open or can the fail short circuited in a backlight arrangement??

Re: LED Failure
Fail open will cause the whole lot not to light.
If a few are short the backlights will work, if more go though protection will kick in and shutdown the backlight. Please Do Not PM My Page Asking For Help Badcaps Is The Place For Advise, Page Linked For Business Reasons Only. Anyone Doing So Will Be Banned Instantly !

Re: LED Failure
Well I guess if they fail short then we would still get backlight, which may not be a bad thing. However, fail open then no backlight as they are connected in series. Thanks.Comment

Re: LED Failure
Spot on, short just dumps the excess load on the others where as open they cant be loaded so the driver shuts down but it lots short the driver will eventually detect it.Please Do Not PM My Page Asking For Help Badcaps Is The Place For Advise, Page Linked For Business Reasons Only. Re: LED Failure
I looked at your very informative video on backlight stacking. Very nice indeed!!..I have a LED failure to investigate and not too sure on how to handle the LCD glass. What is the best way to hold this for removal and return??...ThanksComment

Re: LED Failure
Cheers for the feedback
Also remove the frame then flip the Tv over whilst holding the frame to keep the glass in place (only if its a Vestel and does not have a metal chassis for the Lcd screen) then unmount the tab bond boards as shown in the video and use something like electric tape to secure them in place. Then I normally get my finger nail under that glass and pry it up then grab the sides and carefully set it down somewhere safe. Please Do Not PM My Page Asking For Help Badcaps Is The Place For Advise, Page Linked For Business Reasons Only. Re: LED Failure
BTW, a lot of LEDs can short and still have the unit working. I just disassembled a Samsung that had 19...19 bad LEDs, it had 19 good LEDs. When one finally failed open was when the TV finally failed and was brought into the shop. Worst case of bad LEDs I've seen, no rhyme or reason, good and bad were scattered through the strips. I'm not sure of the make of these particular LEDs but they look the same as the full array LGs, which also fail all the time.Comment

Hello everyone!
I have an IdeaPad Gaming 3 (MB: LA-171P), and the Super I/O has short-circuited, preventing the laptop from turning on. How can I replace this component? I can't find it for purchase. Do I need a specific model?

I'm looking for a extreme high current short killer solution for a reasonable cost.
I have an LGA1700 motherboard (ASUS PRIME Z790-P WiFi) where I exchanged the LGA socket already 3 times, and every time after the socket exchange I get a short of power supply lines VCORE (V variable) and VCCIN_AUX (1.8V).
After taking off the socket, the shorts dissappear again.
The soldermask on the socket is already partially demaged from the heat, so I have reconstructed the soldermask by manually painting the missing soldermask parts with a very small top of a...10-15-2024, 10:13 AM -
by StephenI check PPBUS_AON and there is a short present on the line, the computer shows a short when testing for short to ground, so when I inject voltage into the line, I get 0AMPS so no short is showing up. I have replaced a blown cap on this board that exploded and tested for the short and it is now removed. Any suggestions? I tested voltage at the line when the fuses are connected and I am getting 1.2 Volts at the line.

When the set came in it was dead. Fuse was open primary side and the power mosfet was shorted. So I ordered a new power supply. Now it turns on, only displays "Hitachi" and then power off red and blue led flashing.
I had to modify the 0ohm resistors in the led backlight of the new PS like the original power supply.
Is there any variants on 17IPS71 power supply's?
