Hello and what is this

I've been lurking in the background learning tons of stuff for my ever growing hobby.
Finally I have come across an item that I can't identify so I'm stepping up to the plate and asking everyone here if they can help me out.
Currently I'm working on a wheelchair, one of the motors keeps tripping a fault signal. I opened it up to find two of these little beauties, one of which is destroyed.
The simple question is just what the heck is it? Each one is secured to the housing and the other end is attached to either the positive or negative wire at the brush.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

refer to C1, no idea on much more or if that's correct, check the photos out

I believe those are an AVX axial lead ceramic capacitor (SpinGuard SA), popular in the late 80's-90's.
A1C = AVX, 100V, X7R dielectric
472 = 4700pF or 4.7nF

i still use those - it's just an axial multi-layer ceramic cap.

you put them across the power pins of digital chips.

Sweet, thank you.
I had assumed that it was there to reduce the arching of the brushes but honestly have not seen one before.
Now to find one around here.

it wont do much to suppress arcing - it's to small.
it's mainly to supress RFI.
if you want to supress arcing you need large polyester caps.

Ah got it.
This is the first time I've ever done any work on a wheelchair, my main work is golf equipment.
