    Acceptable esr limit?

I have an esr meter and I googled an esr chart.

    Couple questions:

    Is an onboard test accurate?
How much can the esr value be different from the chart before it's considered bad?

Example: 1000uf 25v - chart says .14ohms esr. Tester indicates .25ohms esr in circuit. Is that considered bad enough to replace?

    Re: Acceptable esr limit?

the chart is rubish, you need the datasheet for the part your testing because they vary so much.
btw, a panasonic FR series 1000uf 25v is rated at 0.018 ohms
a rubycon YXF series is 0.062 ohms

so 0.25 ohms sounds pretty bad!!!

        Re: Acceptable esr limit?

The chart you get with esr meters is one made up based on the average ESR of capacitor series from about 10-20 years ago.
Most charts were copied or based upon Bob Parker's esr meter project ... see the pictures on this old page: http://members.ozemail.com.au/~bobpar/esrmeter.htm

Modern capacitors nowadays have much better specifications so you can't really rely on those charts. It's better to get the datasheet and compare the measurements with the information in the datasheet.
Once you work on lots of things, you get an experience and tend to know how much a good capacitor should measure.

A good low esr capacitor of 1000uF 25v should measure less than 0.25 ohm, but the value is really not that big. I would be worried with values above.. let's say 0.4 ohm. It could be that you have a not so low esr capacitor series installed, and maybe the circuit doesn't even have a low esr capacitor in the first place.

Oh.. also make sure your leads don't add to the resistance measured by the meter.

You mean the datasheets for the capacities being tested not the board they're installed to?

            Re: Acceptable esr limit?

You look at the capacitor, you determine the brand and series from the text on the capacitor and then you look in the datasheet for that series at the impedance value measured at 100kHz.

The ESR of your capacitor should be close to that value, give or take some percentage... only natural that the specs will degrade a bit over time, but shouldn't be 3-5 times the original value.

Intel Arc A380 videocard power limit remove - BIOS needed
              by iulik17d
              Hello everyone!
The Asrock A380 low profile card (ID 8086 56A5 - 1849 6006) have an power limit of 45W. Intel removed the possibility to increase power using the software utility, anyway the card is in an proxmox machine that doesn't run windows.
The same hardware is in another form by the name Asrock A380 Challenger that have the same VRMs and the power limit is at 60W. I searched online and found on another website an .bin bios file from the Challenger variant, that I flashed using an CH341a. Flashng worked well, I put the card in PC and booted. GPUz shows that new device ID is 8086...

i7 2860QM how to raise power limit?
              by mariukonie
              Hi.
I've just upgraded from i5 2340m TDM 35W to i7 2860QM TDM 45W. All is working fine except during stress test the clock multiplier stays capped at x28 which is 2.8MHz and power draw stays around 35W so it seems the motherboard is limiting power draw. On various websites it reads it should go to 3.3MHz on all 8 cores stressed.
What is the best way to go about raising power limit.
              a) Bios upgrade/unlock?
              b) Hardware/shunt mod?
              c) Reduce the CPUs voltage somehow?

What is the lowest acceptable resistance on a coil without considering a short on PCB
              by Jane
I have Asus FA506 ( board DA0BKXMB8D0 Rev: D). Can you please roughly indicate what the lowest resistance I should measure on a coil? I know that a low resistance is allowed on coils in CPU or graphic circuits but can you provide acceptable values of resistance?
              Thank you.

JBL PARTYBOX 1000 NO sound NO 50V
              by AlexVG
Hi, I would like to share my experience...
So, I came across with common problem - no 50V on PSU 40-PF0750-PWD1G
L6566B was burned. Between pin 7 and GND were short circuit. I replaced L6566B with a new one, but it gave me nothing. However, it started if I touched pin 16 with multimeter probe. Obviously the protection is triggered.
If we look at the L6566B datasheet, we will see that to deactivate the protection (AC_OK), is enough to exceed 0.450 volts.
In my case, I have had 0.632 volts. This is enough at the first glance. But on the oscillogram on pin 16, I observed noise...
