    Kenmore box fan

We have this ancient Kenmore box fan that we don't want to throw out because it's a champ. Metal body, metal blades, two speeds and reversible. Makes that crap at wal-mart look weak in comparison.

Everything runs fine aside from the low fan speed. You initially press it when you have not used it for a while and it will spin up to a low and quiet speed but after a few minutes it starts to ramp up to about 80% speed. From then on unless you let it sit for ten minutes or so you can press low and it will always go back to 80% speed. Something's not right but there's just a switch block, thermostat and the fan motor. No resistors or capacitors or much of anything else can be seen.

Switch block is the primary suspect.

Watch out if the switch energizes both speed taps at once. You'll be surprised at how much smoke motors contain!

You can wire nut that low speed wire to the AC hot for testing. It should stay low as long as power is connected.

        Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....

        PS3 CECHC03 60GB YLOD Troubleshooting
        by Woodsworth
I have a post on psx-place for this but thought I'd try here as well in case anyone has experience or the schematics or any kind of help. Here's the original post from psx-place:
        START
Hi, so I bought a YLOD Fat PS3 as I wanted a repair project and thought it would be a good way to get experience. I was able to solder to the RX, TX and Diag pads on the COK-002 motherboard and was able to get external access and retrieved the codes. I haven't powered it on beforehand so these should be the last ones. I did try to get internal access immediately after but kept getting scopen response...

How to clean Liquid Metal from under CPU?
        by silver60618
Hi all, Im working on a board, that my customer brought to another shop, and smeared liquid metal all over the board.
The laptop powers on, then shuts off. I noticed traces of Liquid Metal near the edge of the CPU, but I fear some maybe underneath.

Has anyone ever tried Ultrasonic cleaning, or compressed air to remove or agitate the liquid metal?

1980s Holz Her 2420 belt sander - Only works when speed control at maximum
        by Babbar
My fathers belt sander from the 80s which i very much would like to continue using has an issue with the speed control. The machine works fine on maximum speed but will not turn or give any sign of life when on any other setting. The speed control is a dial going from 1-6 although implemented as a potentiometer without distinct steps. I took the machine apart and measured each component individually, all components and measurements have been captioned in the attached pictures. The Triac did not get identified correctly using my cheapo component tester, i don't know if this is user error, if the...

iphone XS turns off when press on screen.
        by smic717394
        Hi,

I have a iphone XS that came in for a screen replacement, the screen was badly cracked, and inside missing scues, on the back of the screen still the blue protector, the screen was a LCD. So we replaced the screen and all good, installed the screen and we noticed that pressing the screen with a bit of force but not excessive, the phone dies. After plugging the charger it turns back on, but again if you press it it dies. I open the phone again, and I can't see anything major, with the phone open, if I press on the logic board, battery, charging board, or even putting pressure on...
