1980s Holz Her 2420 belt sander - Only works when speed control at maximum

My fathers belt sander from the 80s which i very much would like to continue using has an issue with the speed control. The machine works fine on maximum speed but will not turn or give any sign of life when on any other setting. The speed control is a dial going from 1-6 although implemented as a potentiometer without distinct steps. I took the machine apart and measured each component individually, all components and measurements have been captioned in the attached pictures. The Triac did not get identified correctly using my cheapo component tester, i don't know if this is user error, if the component tester is failing or if the Triac is broken. Also the thermistor? measures open circuit.

Any help appreciated on what you think and what i should focus on!

did you check the pot itself?

Yep, it is supposed to be a 220k pot and i measured it going between around 12 Ohm and 114 kOhm so should be good.

Just using the symptoms of the machine i.e. it works fine on maximum speed setting but not at all otherwise. Does that point to a capacitor issue most likely or could it as well be the triac not working correctly?

What you call a thermistor is likely a diac and is ok, it should be connected to the triac gate, it could be that the triac is bad, have you checked the other resistors on that board?
When you say it only works on maximum, is that when the control is turned to maximum? have you removed the pot from the board and checked it out of circuit?
Post a picture of the trace side of that circuit board so we can see the circuit and how components are connected.

Exactly, with maximum i mean the speed control turned all the way. The trigger switch is just on/off so speed control is implemented via the pot etc. Attaching some more pics, one of the board traces. I didn't do a very good job checking the other resistors, just confirmed that they were not open or short which they were not. If the "thermistor" is actually something else and behaving as intended then I don't know what to focus on, might just try to buy replacements for all the components but would be nice to narrow it down a little bit.

Checked these for open and short circuit, they passed those tests at least but didn't do a proper job checking the ratings. If you think them being bad might explain the symptoms I'll take the machine apart again and have a proper look/measure!

LG 60PK550 Logic Control Board EBR63450301
                by Yanleb
Hi all, I just want to share the repair of my 60PK550-UA TV set.

The TV set was powering on, just no image. After verification, nothing wrong on the YSus or ZSus boards. Nothing wrong on the main board either.

But I noticed that the LED was not flashing on the Logic Control Board. This is an EBR63450301. The LED is supposed to flash even with all the flat cables disconnected, with only the power cable attached.

All the voltages measured at the electrolytic capacitors on the board were good. From top left to bottom right:
                C57: 3.30V
                C61:...

                triac phase control 0-100%
                by harp
Trying to understand which properties of circuit affect triac phase range, is it possible to control near whole period, or it have some limitations - on net found a couple circuit, that claims almost full control, but in the past I build some simple circuit and remember that it do only half of control over triac?...

Pioneer VSX-522-K remote control not working???
                by tmhobadcap
I have this receiver for at least 10 years. Usually, we just use the remote for turning on/off and adjusting the volume. Recently, the remote control started not able to turn the receiver on. Later, the volume also could not be adjusted by the remote control.

At first, I thought that it was the usual problem which can be fixed by cleaning the contacts on the switches and the pcb. I opened the remote and clean it with alcohol. The remote did work again after that. But after one day, it did not work again. I opened it again and clean with alcohol and contact cleaner. Again it worked...

I have been having issues with this garage door opener for a while first the range of the remote was a lot less and sometimes it would start to go down and stop for no reason that I could find and would every once in awhile to start with then it started going more frequently until last Saturday when I opened the garage door it refused to close so I cranked up force all the way maximum limit this did not work also the sensor on one side that has a green and red lights that are supposed to be on when the door is open and there are no obstacles in the way on the original board the only light that...

Sony HCD-HX80R Amplifier Volume Control Problem
                by crackedprint
I have a strange fault on a Sony amplifier. The volume control varies the display from MIN, then 1 up to 30 and then MAX as expected. At MIN there is no sound. However, at 1 it is quite loud and increasing above 1 does not change the sound level.

I have tried a Cold Reset as per the service manual.

I have looked at the I2C clock and data to volume control chip IC501 (BD3499FV). Data is only sent to IC501 when the volume is set to MIN or 1. At any other setting no data is sent to IC501.

I have looked all the way through the service manual and tried many online...
