i'll add,
it's a stainless-steel or nickel case with a roll of paper in it.
the paper it coated in a sludge containing a tiny amount of lithium - that is mined out of the ground in the first place,
and the rest is mostly cobolt - also mined from out of the ground.
so not really an enviromental threat imo.

My local government provides a battery recycling service at the landfill, though unsure what they do with it. They explicitly do not want the batteries in the landfill, maybe just because of the fire risk. Also lead batteries are removed from the landfill lane of course, those can be easily recycled despite lead also being mined from the ground...
Ultimately at this point lithium ion cells have too much "other" crap in it making it hard to recycle unlike lead batteries. This is compounded by the fact that is similar to the plastic recycling problem - there is too many different kinds and nobody cares enough about iron phosphate, manganese dioxide, or cobalt dioxide differences just the same as nobody cares about polyethylene, polypropylene, or polyvinyl chloride.

not many places set up to deal with them . l looked into setting up a place to recycle them . there are lots of hoops to jump through plus it costs lots of money . looks maybe lucrative if done correctly . the chemistry changes inside them and create new things that are wanted . cant remember what right now .Comment

not much lead in "lead" batteries these days.
they just lead-plate some crap metal like zinc to save money.
if they still made them like in the old days they would be pretty valuable to scrappersComment

Lead acid batteries are still all lead else it would be much more difficult to recycle/scrap them, and at least here in the USA scrappers readily take car batteries, dead or alive. The zinc would react with the sulfuric acid too causing acid loss.
And yes lithium ion cells with any lithium metal in them are potential fire hazard, as bad as nickel metal hydride with any hydrogen stored...Comment

I got a chromebook with battery problem. It was charging when plugged in. But the indicator just showed that the battery was below 10% no matter how long it was plugged in. I took the battery pack out. There are two cells in series. Each cell had a voltage of about 3.7V. I charged one of them with a lithium cell charger. I can see current going into the cell at about 500mA. After several hours, the voltage was just about 3.8V. I charged it again manually by connecting 4.2V to it from a power supply and set the maximum current to 500mA. I can see about 100mA going into the cell. But the voltage... -

I got a HP Elitebook 820 G3 Engineering Sample Laptop and I want to use it. Besides the difficult things at the ES-BIOS I have a big problem by saving the main BIOS settings.
The laptop does not have a big battery because it was dead, but I already plugged in a new CMOS battery.
It takes about 5min without power and the BIOS settings are lost. Unfortunatly I dont understand why the BIOS settings are only saved with power connected and this is the reason why I registered here.

Well, due to my grid tie inverter not accepting high voltages, and the fact that the lions in my solar panels are 36V (72-cell) I think I need to stick with 72-cell.
However I have a few smaller panels that are 36, 32, and two 30-cell. The 36 and 32 together run at 75% efficiency (and subtract more with additional inefficiencies) when running in parallel with the 72-cell panels. The kicker is that the two 30s... generate 0% power when connected in parallel(!)
So now what to do with these small panels?
I could sell them...
Or I could shim them.... -
