I replaced the bad 15uF, 200V capacitor in an under-counter 15W fluorescent lamp with a 20uF, and now the fluorescent tube glows violet at both ends. Too much voltage? Too much ultraviolet?

Sometimes you need to break shit to fix it.... Thats why my lawnmower doesn't have a deadman switch or engine brake anymore

Re: Fluorescent electronic ballast
I tried a few different lamps, except for a brand new one (didn't want to damage it), and they all glowed violet at the ends.Comment

Re: Fluorescent electronic ballast
the cap that went bad may have damaged other things because in my knowledge (with analogue ballasts) if the starting circuit doest cut out the tubes will glow like that at the ends. it could also be that cap was in the starting circuit and the value is very important. like say a 20uF might be for starting a 20 watt bulb and a 15uF for a 15 watt etc. is this by any chance potted in tar and is the cap reversed?Things I've fixed: anything from semis to crappy Chinese $2 radios, and now an IoT Dildo....

by dmill89There seemed to be some interest in the Electronic load I was using in my Solid Gear SDGR-500BX review here:https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=85860
So I thought I'd do a separate review on it.
This unit is widely available on Ebay, Amazon, etc. I paid $145 for it with this listing:

by petehall347ok so i built a box to test the electronic dashboards on countax ride on mowers , all works fine and can test all functions with the aid of switches buttons and lights . only thing is the engine rpm that i cant check so need some sort of oscillator i can put together with parts from my stock . and need confirmation where to connect it to on the board . engine kill is short to ground and with it being connected to the coil i presume the signal comes from there .
thinking will need 1000 to 3000 rpm variable .
will post pics of my build later . - Loading...
