    Bridge rectifier and subsequent components

    Please forgive the silly questioning.

I know theres half and full but which is this? Or is it more depending on how its placed in a cct?

So although theres not actually any AC on the output of the rectifier (or at least shouldn't be) would you expect to get a reading from a DMM on the AC range due to the pulsing DC?

I think it's fullwave rectifier, the part number you mentioned. You only need one diode for half-wave rectification.

You should get an ac reading because of the ripple voltage.

Re: Bridge rectifier and subsequent components

        Thankyou both.
I shall read through that and try to expand on it to try and understand it all a bit better.
OK, so ripple on the rectifier output, this would then be smoothed by a cap or 2.

My question now is, ok theres ripple on the rectifier, but would the output of a Linear volt reg (connected on the rectifier outputs) also have ripple on it? There are 2 which provide + and - 12v.

Re: Bridge rectifier and subsequent components

As the instructive documents point out, the part is a "rectifier bridge" - 4 diodes hooked up to rectify the AC on a 2 wire secondary. Bridges differ from full wave (2-diode) in that the full wave design requires a center tapped secondary to provide the return.
            Is it plugged in?

Fujitsu Q556, What capacitor for bridge rectifier?
              by mpn78
              Hello

My Fujitsu Esprimo Q556 motherboards blew up. At least fuse, bridge rectifier and capacitor got damaged. I have changed fuse and bridge rectifier (DF1508S), but I don't know what capacitor it is (picture). I know that capacitors size is 47nF, but I don't know other specs for it. Can you help me to choose right capacitor for my motherboard?
There is 240V AC on input side of bridge rectifier and 340V DC as output on capasitors side.

              Thanks....

Reading input and output of bridge rectifier on the same scope?
              by EasyGoing1
I have a 40 volt AC transformer that I put a bridge rectifier on, and I wanted to see the input signal and the output signal on the same screen on my scope, so I set one channel up with the test lead on one side of the input and the ground lead on the other side of the input, then I used another channel on the scope and clipped the test lead on the positive side of the output then the ground on the negative side of the output.

When I connected the transformer to power, the wire that was connected between the ground lead on the second channel and the negative side of the bridge rectifier...

Sparkle 1200W PSU MAGNA Model: SPM1200AXJ8 - Broken. Need help identifying components. Any schematics available?
              by Sam Scarbo
My Sparkle (SPI) PC power supply has broken. Originally, there was totally no power output. The 5V-standby was not there. I have replaced a few bulged capacitors but not helping.

I was trying to do more troubleshooting but burned more components. Some got burned so badly that the markings were gone. And also, the markings of a few transistors were gone because the component surface was worn out somehow.
If you happened to have disassembled the same PSU model, please help to provide the markings of some of these components.

See the attached two pictures of the small...

              Macintosh Quadra 840AV PSU
              by nicktasios
I had my Quadra 840AV (which I recapped and had working) plugged in for some time without using it and randomly decided to turn it on today. Unfortunately it did not turn on. After checking the PSU, I found out I was not getting anything from 12V, only from the 5V rail. After a few minutes, I removed the PSU and plugged it back in the electrical outlet and it suddenly started making a weird sound and soon after smoke started coming out. I quickly unplugged it. I opened it up but on first instance I didn't see anything out of the ordinary really. I later turned it back on and one of the MOVs blew...

KingWin ABT-650MM 650 Watt ATX PSU [PCB: SW8835REV:A]
              by momaka
For today's thread, I have a KingWin ABT-650MM ATX PSU. Official web page with the PSU specs is still up and can be found here:
              http://www.rmac.kingwin.com/products.../abt_650MM.asp

I just can't help it when I see a broken / for parts PSU on eBay that's listed for cheap and looks at least somewhat interesting. Well, OK, I won't lie – on the outside, this PSU looks anything but interesting. It's a plain gray box with colorful “spaghetti cables”.

What mostly drew me into buying it is its 2x PCI-E power connectors...
