identify bad smd cap

hey,

i got this hd from a freind at work,
it's not spinning,

i think i found a bad cap,
it's shorted...

could a smd cap get shorted?
and how can i know it's rating,?

maybe it's a coil....

SMD MLC (Muti Layer Ceramic) type caps do fail shorted, that looks more like SMD inductor.
