Yes. It is called a reverse protection diode. It is soldered reverse polarity, so that, in normal operation, it does nothing. When the power supply is wired in reverse, it limits the output voltage to its voltage drop below ground (it is usually a schottky so that means -0.2-0.3v), so the circuitry after it is never exposed to a high negative voltage. High current goes thru it and it blows the fuse.

      A working TV? How boring!

Crowbar protection in case of wrong polarity voltage is applied to the unit.

Possibly a surge suppressor diode, like a TVS.

Yes yes yes. I turned it arround and was surprised why the hell the fuse still keeps blowing when the transistor is good, when everything is good

OK, now I think it could work, will connect it to the rest and see whether it will fire up. What I carefoully measued, no voltage anywhere, I guess you have to turn the thing on using some of the panels which are in the truck obviously.

Repair of an LG split AC system indoor unit PCB
              by ngml
I am trying to repair an LG split AC indoor unit, which does not start and gives a CH05 error code.
This indicates an error in the communication between the outdoor and the indoor unit.
The outdoor unit is fine, so the problem is the indoor PCB.
The indoor unit is an LG PC09SQ NSJ (3SNM09JA2FA), and the PCB has the following type number: EAX35907219-1.2 (see photo1)
I changed optocouplers ICO1X & ICO2X and the NPN transistor S9013 which drives optocoupler ICO2X (see photo2), but this did not remedy the fault.

Does anybody have the schematics of this board,...

Garage door RX unit (Cardin S38C) does not short relay to send opening signal
              by CoinCoin88
              Hello everyone,

I'm turning to the Badcaps community to help me troubleshoot the radio Rx card from my (old) garage door opener. While I could just ditch that card and replace the whole system, I first would like to understand "why" it suddenly stopped working, because that's just how I am wired...!

Some basics: the receiver works on a 30.875 Mhz frequency. Yes, I'm aware this is not in use anymore in a looot of places. It does not use any rolling code, it's just a regular dip-switch code that you have to set up on both the receiver and transmitter. The receiver...

Unit runs but no speaker output kenwood KR-6030
              by DrDos
I have finished my work. The new lights come on except the one for stereo, I reversed the bulbs to no affect, anyway, the unit powers on, relay clicks. I have no DC voltage in speaker outputs, I also do not have any AC in the speaker outputs. There is some faint crackling in the speaker. This unit cranks up loud so I had the volume on very low. Everything seems to be fine but I can't really check the switch until I can get sound out of the outputs. I was going to do caps for the power supplys and the tone board but thought if it was cranking loud at one time maybe just leave it alone until it...

Remember that cheap $15 PSU that dmill89 posted a while back here?
              https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=72229
              .
              .
So I was randomly browsing on eBay (as always) and saw a listing for supposedly the same “775 Watt” PSU with starting bid at $1. Description stated “for part or repair”, with the owner/seller mentioning the PSU had blown/shorted. Surely I could spend a few $$ more and get the same PSU as dmill89 right from Amazon brand new and (probably) working… but where is the fun in that?!

So I got this one instead...

Bose Companion 5 - Unit Powers On then Cuts Off Shortly After
              by nobbnobb1
              Hi guys,

Trying to salvage a Bose Companion 5 computer speaker system that powers off shortly after powering on. It's got a primary USB input (built in DAC) and an aux 3.5mm input. The USB appears to be the primarily source that tells the unit to power on (control pod LED goes green) as the unit has no power switch.

When I first connect power to the unit, plug in the USB, it will play audio nicely for a minute before it drops out and the unit appears to go into standby (control pod LED goes red). It stays in standby and I cannot seem to power it back on without physically...
