    Re: bad power

It blew its top already- did it set its oil on fire?

If the cutout's still closed, or if no cutout (CSP ), the stinger will burn the pole and arc to the CATV, phone and neutral of the LV triplex or open wire secondary.

Go make some movies, you'll have a blast- STAY AWAY from the pole, step potential...

You'll also have primary fault current returning through your GES/GEC if that stinger hits your drop... Your faucets may 'bite.'

Hell yeah... A year or so ago the fuse on the power pole was faulty, overheating, arcing, or something... lights started flickering the power went off and then back on.. soon as that happened I disconnected EVERYTHING straight away and called the power company.

According to the guy who replaced it, apparently they just get old and start failing like that...

Like joshnz said, we don't seem to get that kind of thing here much.. then again America is much larger so I suppose you have more transformers to blow up

Only thing exciting that happened recently was where I think some high voltage lines shorted from being blown around in a storm...

Between my street and another is an old orchard and a creek, and the lines go all the way across with no poles in between... that night there was a huge flash of light (thought it was lightning at first) and the power just went off. No thunder so I'm pretty sure it was just the power lines.

Looking outside our whole street was off and so were all the streets on the other side of the orchard. Power company had everything back up and running half an hour later.

well our switch gear and underground cables fail. switch gear = fire and and twice two switch stations caught fire. first one was from a fault in a 11kv line that they switched back on without doing a test. the second was a 33kv from the two transformers that feed our district they are now putting in a new 33kv supply to the cbd to take the load off the 11kv system after 3 of the four cables that feed the city failed within a week.

Had an incident like that when there was just some wintry precipitation...

The power flickered and I saw green flashes when there was wintry precipitation in downtown Springfield.

wholly thread revival batman! i vote this thread locked because the OP is banned (and this thread is from 2k11 and his grammar/spelling gives me a headache)

anyway since this thread is revived: its not unusual to see 135v both phases here where i live. the cause is the phases being out of balance between the two transformers on the poles. the one down the street is feeding the same phases as the transformer behind my building basically.

Sometimes you need to break shit to fix it.... Thats why my lawnmower doesn't have a deadman switch or engine brake anymore

If you got 135V on both legs, at the same time, either primary voltage too high or wrong tap selected. Probably the former, since taps don't change by themselves- if the tx were to be shorting changing the ratio, it would be more "interesting," as skystorms' adventure has shown.

OTOH, if you've got 135-0-105, watch out! The single-phase (center tapped tx) service has a bad neutral- anywhere from the tx to the building.

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

                                            Hi all!

I'm trying to troubleshoot a Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 that won't power on. Motherboard model is M1007506-015. My priority is retrieving data, but the SSD is integrated so it looks like if I can't repair it it'll need to go to a data recovery company. I've done a little basic board repair before, but nothing this advanced until now. So please forgive my ignorance in advance. πŸ˜…

I found the boardview for this laptop in the forums here, and am able to open it on my PC with FlexBV.

                                            Hi all,

TL;DR - this laptop is driving me nuts with the oddball power-related behaviors. Appreciate any insight you can provide!

I'm experiencing a power issue on an Asus Probook P5440UF-XB74. Although I've worked with electronics and computers for decades, this is my first attempt at getting into motherboard-level component troubleshooting. Any help the community can provide is greatly appreciated!

I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...
