^ Doesn't happen to mine, I still think your tip is not clean. At over 350C which is well above the melting point of the most commonly used solders, you may be burning away the flux rather quickly.

You might just be trying to wet with far too much solder, wetting doesn't require a huge amount on a fine conical tip... it would pretty well defeat the purpose of having a fine tip if there were a lot of solder on it.

I actually have a chisel tip, but the effect is the same. I'll grab a photo for you next time.

        Re: Choosing a soldering station

Applying solder to an iron and then taking a focused macro shot was trickier than I thought! So here you can see what I mean. The brown crust is flux from the solder I had just applied, so it can't be helped.

I find that having some solder on the tip makes transferring heat more efficient. It increases contact area with the part being soldered, as well as providing a heat "reservoir" for parts that dissipate more heat into the air. I'll confess there's a little bit too much in the first pic, but when you're de-soldering parts you need a good size blob to envelope all the leads. When space is tight, you need that solder at the tip end as much as possible.

Anyway, I've said too much about it already. Just a little niggle.

While I don't tin my tip with that much solder, what it is doing looks fine to me.

The solder goes on the component not the tip. The photos are just what I would expect. Just enough solder on the iron to transfer heat.. In regards to tips for the Weller (my standard by for years) a company named PLATO provides tips for several manufactures, including Weller. Most of my tips are Plato. For those of you in OZ , I'd bump that temp up to 427deg C. (800F). Working too close to the melting point is still too cold for proper flow. I use a long reach tip w/ a 1/32 chisel tip to get into the tight spots. Tried conicles , don't like them.

Modification to a ZD-987 desoldering/soldering station using a external switching power supply
              by sam_sam_sam
I have been working on this concept for quite some time now with limited success but recently I found a switching power supply that is setup for the voltage that this soldering station needs to operate at however it also needs part of the secondary circuit from the original switching power because you need several voltage rails

I once tried to get a ZD-915 desoldering station to work on a 18 volt battery power supply but unfortunately things did not go well but I did find a work around but I might try this idea again but going at a little differently more about this another time...

              hello.
A few months ago,I have purchased 0.1mm Soldering Iron Tip of below aliexpress link,But I noticed that It is totally impossible to use this 0.1mm iron tip in the T12 soldering station
              https://ko.aliexpress.com/item/4001275635593.html
Is there any good soldering station which is possible to use 900M-TJ-I tip and have inexpensive or reasonable price in aliexpress?

Recommendations of quality soldering station and (separate) hot air station
              by caprider
              Hey,

I'm looking for some recommendations of a decent quality soldering station and a separate hot air station. I'm just a hobbyist, so even if (ultra)premium tools are not required, I still want some good tools. They should be available in Europe.

I now have a TS100 and some soldering irons and looking for some better tools.

              1. Soldering station, budget around 200-240€
JBC BT-2BWA seems to be a good product in the budget.

              2. Hot air station, budget around 200€
Up to now I've found ATTEN ST-862D to be a good option....

KSGER C245 Soldering station PSU 220V only?
              by mkbehbeh
I purchased this soldering station when it was on sale at amazon. It had a slew of one star reviews, but the price was low enough that even if the controller and PSU were toast, the handle tips and stand were worth more than the price. All of the reviews mentioned that the unit was either DOA, or died on the first use. I looked on Aliexpress and the first clue was that KSGER still sold the 220V version of this station, but all of the 110V versions had been discontinued. I figured That there was a problem with the 110V on the power suppply and the controller would be fine.

              I am...

Yihua 992DA+ Hot air gun and soldering rework station, burnt mark
              by Peter_1402
              Hi Everyone,
I bought a Yihua 992DA+ hot air gun and soldering iron unit from a used market.
              1. Soldering iron works great
              2. There is a burnt mark on the hot air gun handle.
I am a bit concern by the look of the melted plastic. I opened the hot air gun handle and took some readings with a multimeter.
Heating element ~ 75ohm. (Similar reading taken from a spare heating element that came with the unit.)
Thermocouple ~ 1.5ohm. (Similar reading from the spare heating element.)
Reed switch tested ok with a magnet.
From the above test, I can conclude...
