• Re: The old IC appreciation thread

Photo 9/13 .The funny Led 7 segment displays look just like the displays that were used by HP on their early calculators. They were also used on other equipment but at this time I can't say which. In the 80s they went over to LCDs. A lot of HP projects excess parts and engineering scrap went into a bin available to schools. A lot of what you show looks as if it came from that bin.

• Re: Choosing a soldering station

The solder goes on the component not the tip. The photos are just what I would expect. Just enough solder on the iron to transfer heat.. In regards to tips for the Weller (my standard by for years) a company named PLATO provides tips for several manufactures, including Weller. Most of my tips are Plato. For those of you in OZ , I'd bump that temp up to 427deg C. (800F). Working too close to the melting point is still too cold for proper flow. I use a long reach tip w/ a 1/32 chisel tip to get into the tight spots. Tried conicles , don't like the...

• When to and when not to use a Poly?

The use of Poly is interesting. One Question bothers me though. When is the substitution of a Poly is acceptable and when it is not. That is in which circuits does it work and which does it not or is to be avoided. Second Q: what if one replaces a cap with exactly the same value in Poly?
No value adjustments.

Thanks Paul. I just needed some reaffirmation of my thinking. Its just having been out of harness for so long and the hands are almost gone. Forgive the whine. How to treat my first recap?

The board looks pretty good , its a glass board. My question is to weather I should go ahead and change the other 8 caps and save me the trouble of coming back later
for a redo.
Had to relearn how to do the one hand solder sucker cock. My hand still hurts (old hands). I've been on the sideline too long and I'm having to retrain the hands.
Sure miss that Pace solder sucker, Just don't have the price for one.
It was handy to bring stuff in...

Well gang, here goes my first thread.
I have a pair of Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 2.0 speaker hooked to my laptop. Only bout 4 yo. I have moved several times these past two years. The puter is on a deep table with the speaker less than three feet apart and w/ the left sp near my seat.
Just this last week I came to realize that the right sp wasn't working. I checked all connections, (aber es war kaputt). I opened the right speaker and exposed the T amp there. One of the 470mfd caps had . The second...
