Re: Tool Recommendation: soldering iron and hot air station

I have a Hakko FX888D and a T12 clone. I love them both. Also my hot air station is a basic cheapo and it works fine for hobby purposes.

Amazon has the Bakon clone for $30 everyone is talking about https://www.amazon.com/SEALODY-Digit.../dp/B07ZCTM3CV

I would heavily favor something with T12 or T15 compatibility. The direct heating technology is the way to go.

there are threads about the bakon, i use one.
T12 handles are cheap - about the same cost as the tips!

My first Bakon 950D had a handle for T12 tips and I bought and use t12 tips.
I bought a second Bakon 950D as a spare not realising they came with different handles. The t13 tip that turned up was hard plastic and not comfortable to hold like the original handle.
I bought a handle like the original, there are several different styles available, so ensure the handle is for T12 not T13.
I can't compare to a KSGER but I've been very happy with the Bakon, far better than my old iron where the tips fit over the heating element.

They don't stick out further, the ridges are in a different place so the element slops about in the handle.

The MS300 is from Atten and is not an all-in-one/combined unit per se. Its actually 3 separate unit mounted in a frame, of which is the ST-862D hot air station.

289 was total included 65 of ship. that st-965 i think is similar to all other solder iron... its not a t12...

for t12 or similar there is the gt series, but way more expensive.

The iron mentioned is 900 series, not T12. Instead of buying the 2 device, I would chip in another EUR50 for a total of EUR339 (per listing on site) and get the MS300 "All in one" unit which also includes a power supply.

give a look here : ship to canada 65 euros if you are not able to find locally in your country.

    https://www.atten.eu/

    u can get the st-862d and the AT938D 60W Digital & Lead-free Soldering Station

estimated total cost is 289 euros

    what think other people here?

the kesger with that bad power supply i dont think would be the best choise.

Re: Tool Recommendation: soldering iron and hot air station

What kind of work do you intend on doing with the hot air and how often would you be using it?

IF you are using it for small project or just to learn how to work with SMD (with no real plan on using it for work purposes/daily repairs) then get a cheap Chinese one. They are much cheaper and good enough for above mentioned purpose.

If you however plan to use it to learn and eventually use it 'Professionally'/often, then it's worth the investment in getting something of better quality like the Atten.

Do not skimp on the soldering iron. Good thermal recovery and maintaining temperature when working on different surfaces with varying thermal mass is important. Hot air (contactless soldering as I sometimes call it ) on the other hand is more 'forgiving' as long as the device can maintain good enough temperature at different air flow as well as having a decent amount of air it can push.

If budget is an issue, prioritize on getting a good soldering iron then decide on the hot air.

I personally started with something similar to this (same model but different rebranding) : https://chinaprices.net/buy-bakon-sb...hine-O365F4D00.

ok so around 300 usd. with that budget the quick hot air is not possible.

i would go for atten st-862d and kesger t12 as someone suggested with some good tips.

edit: i have seen also this branded quick, but look at the solder iron... same as atten and company.... so no go for that money.

otherwise u can give a try with https://www.ebay.it/itm/Stazione-dop...Cclp%3A2334524

some video u can find on youtube:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EacUQBTyDaM

here in italy is 65€ship to italy included.. 10€more for some tips and ull done, but this new hot air station looks like to have a pump for hot air, but when it was out my solder was also very cheap and im satisfied with it.

also what kind of hot air u want ? 8586 use a normal fan for airflow, while some new model use a pump and the tube from station to hotair is much bigger

why someone suggest 1000watt of hot air ? do he need to desolder big chip ? with 1000 watt he cant desolder big bga and of a small qfn, 0201 resistor i think is useless

edit ive seen some review of atten st-862d and looks like a good hot air station.... if u have the money could be best buy for hot air.
I'd be doing work on parts with low thermal mass; desktop and notebook boards, personal electronics, etc.

Modification to a ZD-987 desoldering/soldering station using a external switching power supply
    by sam_sam_sam
I have been working on this concept for quite some time now with limited success but recently I found a switching power supply that is setup for the voltage that this soldering station needs to operate at however it also needs part of the secondary circuit from the original switching power because you need several voltage rails

I once tried to get a ZD-915 desoldering station to work on a 18 volt battery power supply but unfortunately things did not go well but I did find a work around but I might try this idea again but going at a little differently more about this another time...

Guide to transplant MEC1503 EC chip and EEPROM reprogamming for T14s gen 2 and X13 gen 2
    by acedogblast
This is a guide that I am writing for helping others to replace their MEC1503 EC chip if it breaks (or to get around an inconvenient prompt to the BIOS). This forum has been extremely helpful to me so I would like to contribute to help others. I will tell you right now that this task is very difficult to do. You MUST have experience and tools to do precision micro-soldering, BGA reballing, trace repair, and general laptop repair skills.

There are some specialty tools needed to do this task. The replacement MEC1503 chips can be acquired from Aliexpress. Do not buy the bare chips as...

Recommendations of quality soldering station and (separate) hot air station
    by caprider
    Hey,

I'm looking for some recommendations of a decent quality soldering station and a separate hot air station. I'm just a hobbyist, so even if (ultra)premium tools are not required, I still want some good tools. They should be available in Europe.

I now have a TS100 and some soldering irons and looking for some better tools.

    1. Soldering station, budget around 200-240€
JBC BT-2BWA seems to be a good product in the budget.

    2. Hot air station, budget around 200€
Up to now I've found ATTEN ST-862D to be a good option....

KSGER C245 Soldering station PSU 220V only?
    by mkbehbeh
I purchased this soldering station when it was on sale at amazon. It had a slew of one star reviews, but the price was low enough that even if the controller and PSU were toast, the handle tips and stand were worth more than the price. All of the reviews mentioned that the unit was either DOA, or died on the first use. I looked on Aliexpress and the first clue was that KSGER still sold the 220V version of this station, but all of the 110V versions had been discontinued. I figured That there was a problem with the 110V on the power suppply and the controller would be fine.

    I am...

    Sumsour station 8586D error H-E
    by rmjimenez455@gmail.com
Hello everyone, next I have the following problem with the Sumsour 8586D 110v dual station I bought it a year ago and it worked wonderfully, now it presents the H-E error on the soldering iron side, the hot air side works correctly..... I disassembled the soldering iron head because the manual tells me that this error is due to ceramic resistance problems, in effect, I measured it and it is open, I bought a new one that is working verified in a soldering iron and nothing.... The same error continues, I proceeded to open the station and check visually, I found a totally damaged 1R00 surface mount...
