    Oscilloscope Opinion

Would this Tektronix TekScope THS730A be any good to have on your DIY bench for simple audio projects testing and troubleshooting?

    TIA,
    Frank

    no way in hell
1200 for a 200MHz monochrome portable is bullshit - i wouldnt pay 100 for it.

if your on a bench, you can get a new 4channel modern scope from rigol or siglent for under a third of that!!

THS720/730 have been out since 1996, kinda old like Fluke Scopemeters. Portable scopes are not very good, lots of compromise. Little memory, low sampling rate and LCD display and most are optimized for electricians doing VFD work. I don't like them.
What's your budget? I prefer Tek over the Rigol.
Lowesrt cost, really basic use, the DSO138 is fine for audio work.

It's weird, Why a old Tek like this is still alive today if it's from 1994? and why my new fresh Uni-T is just dead (dates from 2017 "new tech" -500MSa/S) if dates back for no more than 10 years? Ahh I must forget: One is made to work in those days tech (around 1GSa/S) and the other is made with yesterday tech but today (chinesse type around 500MSa/S).

Micro SMD probe tip for Rigol oscilloscope ?
            by irnard
Any advice where can I find micro SMD probe tip for Rigol oscilloscope ? Can't find anything online and factory one is just too fat to fit in some tight spaces on logic board. Thx

            tektronix 5103n(D11) Oscilloscope creap
            by vanel
I tried to figure out which section this belonged in, but imaging is the one that seemed closest. I have a tektronix 5103n(D11) and the horizontal line is always slowly creaping down. Even if I have it probing a voltage. I tried probing a 9V battery and it would show 9V at first then very slowly keep moving down. Is there an adjustment I can make or is the scope in need of reapir? Thank you.

How not to Damage an Oscilloscope
            by Tarot Superstars
            Hello.
I have jut got my first analogue oscilloscope. An Isotech 620 20MHz.

I want to learn how not to damage it, and I found instructions on the internet obscure.
They talk about ground, earth, floating ground, this, that....
But they don't actually say anything anything useful so far.

            I want to know:
Don't connect exactly this to exactly there or it blows up.

For example, I am tracing a signal from a function generator in an audio amp, or testing for voltages in different parts of a circuit.
I want to know what not to connect...

            Tektronix 422 with No Power
            by KYBOSH
Picked up a Tektronix type 422 oscilloscope locally for a few bucks last year.
It wouldnt power on at all so I stowed it away under my bench for later testing.
Today I remembered it was down there and pulled it out to see what was what.

I checked for continuity and everything checked out.
There was a burned smell and a resistor was replaced with a temporary replacement (see yellow box in picture).
The burned smell is very pungent/acidic and I am not familiar with these vintage electronics to know whether I am smelling the remains of the replaced resistor or...

Hi, Can we use SMPS Bench Power Supply for Laptop troubleshooting?
            by shamsudeen
Hi all, I just need to know that, can i use SMPS type power supply to test and short circuit detection on a laptop motherboard?
I saw 95% of repair guys are using only Linear bench power supply. linear bench power supply is pricy, thats why i planned to get one SMPS supply.

i know that in linear power supply the noise will be very low comparing to SMPS supply....
