    Gas tools

Does anyone have info on an Irish firm Oglesby&Butler (Portasol brand) which produce gas ignited solder irons, hot air guns, blowers, breners...for major brands: Weller and Ersa (the same looking of tools but different names)? Are they good (O&B)?

    i have a few.
good as long as you do not use cheap butane like you find at the flemarket.
    clogs them up.

      Re: Gas tools

I've been using a BluePoint YAKS1 butane soldering iron from Snap-On (I think it's a Portasol) for many years. I've had to take it apart a couple times to fix its piezoelectric igniter. The igniter is broken now so I start it with a small gas torch. The iron cladding on the tips wear and flakes off. After that, the brass erodes quickly. I have to sharpen the tip when I need a fine point. I have to be careful of the exhaust near components and my fingers. The convenience of not being tethered by a cord and having plenty of heat makes up for its shortcomings.....I think(?!). I guess it's time for a new one. lol

I have a 25 year old Portasol that works great! Also have BernzOmatic unit that works very well too.

Agree with KC on butane. I use Ronson Ultra butane.

Does anyone know what is the time duration (how long it will work before expire?) of catalyst "net" that produces heat from gas boost (shirm inside of soldering iron head that lights red) on Portasol Technick, 50 and Professional models. Thanks

Ask Portasol. Mine has never had a problem.

              Tools - Order of purchase
              by Hexram
              Hey guys,

I am new to the electronics repair game & have stumbled into some tools to get my workshop (garage) started.

I managed to get my hands on a low budget multi-meter, soldering iron, de-soldering gun, oscilloscope and a variable voltage/amperage DC power supply.

With this being a new hobby i am thinking of investing in some tools to make it a little easier.

When i get paid next i was thinking of buying a Peak Atlas ESR 70 gold.

I am after suggestions on what order to buy things because i don't have the money...

Brother Maintenance Tools and repair help for QL-570
              by DriversScrew
Anyone can provide the software tools for Brother P-Touch QL-570?
According to the service manual there should exist

On the brother homepage I only can find autopoff.exe and a tool called ptsweep.exe.

I got the QL-570 as defective, but it powered up normal (voltages measured ok) with cutting and paper feed working until a paper roll and driver were installed on the connected pc.
The device now only shows a dim red LED light. Powering on/off doesn't work.

I'll do voltage measurements again to exclude an electrical/power supply problem....
