    Tools and supply reconndations

Is this still a/the recommend iron?
    https://www.amazon.com/KSGER-Tempera.../dp/B07PYFSCJ9

*For use at a desk w/ cheap replacement tips available (if i need to get brand names ones for a specific use that is fine)
i would like something good for SMD parts on boards (not messing with BGA comments)
a tip recommendations would be nice

where should i get some flux and low melt solder from?

    other tool recommendations?

Other tools i have or ordered:
    ZD-915 de-soldering gun
Atten ST-862D (our fav. right to repair spokeman has these for $200, they were 230 or 240 last week)

Could have swore this side had a dark mode... maybe i am being blinded by the UI and can't find it again?

if your getting a 915 search my threads about making your own filter discs and adding an extra inline filter.
also the fan will need to be replaced at some point - thats covered too.

You should have seen my modification to the ZD-915 type desoldering gun where I used an external switching power supply because the one that is in it is not designed very well and after many hours of use it has a tendency to fail I would highly recommend that you change the cooling fan and change the the resistor connection for the fan so it see 24 volt straight from the power supply instead of around 15 volts or so because they run the hell out of the 12 volt fan now I have one that has a 14 volt fan which is the way it comes originally but I also changed to a 24 volt and it moves more air and is not as noisy

Here is the post that I made about using an external switching power supply for ZD-987

Apparently this desoldering gun station dose not use a switching power supply interesting but I do not like it price but it has a feature that is interesting however and it can be connected to your computer I am not sure exactly what it suppose to do for you

I add the “proof of concept” but time had expired for me to do it

how poorly does that have to have been implemented for that to be a issue? i find it hard to bevel what should just be a few lines of css a concern

i was mainly asking for a iron recommendation and any other stuff i really need eg tweezers, flux, low melt solder, stuff i would need to something like replace a power stage/mosfet on a GPU

for the zd-915 i have new caps to replace the crappy stock ones, making my own filters would be cool, but i have spare parts for it

If you have an iron from the same company it also has the same switching power issues and the iron it self has an issue after many hours of use either the heating element or the temperature sensor wire fails the tips are decent for the most part

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?
              by Tynan Dill
I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

              Assuming...

Desoldering gun station modified to use a 18 volt @ 20 amp switching power supply
              by sam_sam_sam
I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...

Modification to a ZD-987 desoldering/soldering station using a external switching power supply
              by sam_sam_sam
I have been working on this concept for quite some time now with limited success but recently I found a switching power supply that is setup for the voltage that this soldering station needs to operate at however it also needs part of the secondary circuit from the original switching power because you need several voltage rails

I once tried to get a ZD-915 desoldering station to work on a 18 volt battery power supply but unfortunately things did not go well but I did find a work around but I might try this idea again but going at a little differently more about this another time...

Hi, Can we use SMPS Bench Power Supply for Laptop troubleshooting?
              by shamsudeen
Hi all, I just need to know that, can i use SMPS type power supply to test and short circuit detection on a laptop motherboard?
I saw 95% of repair guys are using only Linear bench power supply. linear bench power supply is pricy, thats why i planned to get one SMPS supply.

i know that in linear power supply the noise will be very low comparing to SMPS supply....

              Russound CA4 Power Supply Repair
              by CMCM
              Hello Everybody,

Trying to repair a power supply from a Russound CA4 Multizone Controller (picture attached)

Russound no longer supports it but were kind enough to provide a schematic of the power supply (pdf attached).

The outputs marked 12v and 20v are all measuring only 1v.

The board is clicking, which I think means it is in something called hiccup mode when the flyback transformers switches because of an internal problem or something else on the board Overloading it.

The capacitors physically look clean (no bludgesor leaks) and...
