    Re: Trio oscilloscope cs1022

I think most scopes should start showing a trace when freshly turned on. *most* ...
Digital scopes or ones with computer controls may not, but most should. Since the CS1022 is not a computer controlled scope, it's a bit easier.

Most scopes should be able to pick up stray currents induced by the main power line oscillation, so you should pick up a 50Hz oscillation in your locale (UK?). Start with "AC coupling" on one of the channels and rotate the position knob so that the trace is centered. Choose something like 500 millivolts/division. Then also set you sweep time to something like 5-10 milliseconds per division (BTW, a division is the distance between the graticule lines on your screen): At 50Hz a sine wave will complete a cycle in 20 milliseconds so you should see a several full sine waves on the screen.

Set your trigger to "auto", "internal", "DC(or auto) coupling" - this should be most common usage. Set your trigger level to about center.

Then touch your probe on some large conductive item not connected to line power. You could touch the probe tip with your finger.

You should see some nasty sine wave on the screen. You may need to touch focus or intensity to get a clean bright sine wave.

Hope this is sufficient to test things.

start with the basics, pick a channel.

stuff a voltage in - does it scale on the screen correctly?
can you ajust the trace frequency properly?

    repeat on the other channel

i hate sites that sell manuals they downloaded for free,
i also hate how they salt the search engines to try to mask the free sources afterwards!!!

Yeah I think Trio = Kenwood

    http://www.radiomuseum.org/r/trio_ke...scope_c_2.html

I wonder why some fairly famous audio manufacturers keep their test equipment under a different brand, like Viz = RCA, though perhaps Viz never made a scope, though they made fairly famous Voltohmysts.

Need advice testing a samsung power supply board with scope
    by repair-it
I am attempting to test a samsung power supply board to verify the pfc ic is working. I am powering up the board with my isolation transformer. The board turns on fine but when I attempt to connect the ground for the scope probe, it trips out the isolator. I was taught not to 'float my scope' so I am wondering if I should test without connecting the ground lead or would that be asking for trouble? Not sure how else to test, I don't have a portable scope. I could plug direct to mains power but that would bypass the safety factor.

How not to Damage an Oscilloscope
    by Tarot Superstars
    Hello.
I have jut got my first analogue oscilloscope. An Isotech 620 20MHz.

I want to learn how not to damage it, and I found instructions on the internet obscure.
They talk about ground, earth, floating ground, this, that....
But they don't actually say anything anything useful so far.

    I want to know:
Don't connect exactly this to exactly there or it blows up.

For example, I am tracing a signal from a function generator in an audio amp, or testing for voltages in different parts of a circuit.
I want to know what not to connect...

    Dynamco analogue oscilloscope
    by Evets
I have recently acquired a Dynamco D7100 analogue oscilloscope without a user manual. As this is the first time I have owned or used an oscilloscope I would like to try and find an instruction book. The manufacturers no longer hold any information and a Google search only found one site but when I downloaded a 'service manual' all I got was gobbledegook. Any help would be gratefully appreciated or even pointers to a generic manual where I could learn more.
