Atmel168A-PU-based ESR meter - using on a PSU

I finally got caught up on my reading and have really been enjoying my new tool. Occasionally though I get unexpected results, especially while I was trying to locate defective components in an Antec psu.

Twice I was on the backside of the ckt. bd. on the component leads and got a real low (like, say, 57pf) reading but after taking the cap out and measuring again the part reads ok.
This occurred on a 22uf one and a 220uf one.

Lots of OST in the box, and tan glue here and there, so far on the bigger caps I've checked
I get what seems like reasonable readings for several caps in parallel. There's a copyright date of 2006 on the psu so I suppose it ought to be fully recapped but I don't know if I'm up to it. looks like it'll take forever...

Anyway, what a pain to work on a crammed-full box like this, anyone have any tips?

the reason you cant reliably do in-circuit testing is because other parts like diodes and chips have a capacitance!

this effects all esr meters - the problem is many have been sold on lies!

Oh, okay, so it's pretty normal to have to pull some items, shoot 8^(

Modification of a Fluke multi meter that uses three AA batteries to use a 14500 lithium ion battery
        by sam_sam_sam
I have had with regular AA batteries that leak this meter is expensive new I already replaced the battery battery clips once and the same thing happened again and I am tried of so it is getting modified to accommodate lithium ion batteries that are the same size excluding the positive terminal and removing the battery clips I will have enough room for the BMS protection board

I going to put 3 lithium ion battery in parallel with the BMS protection board and a way to charge the battery externally and heat shrink the battery pack and use a JST connector so I easily remove the battery...

Changing the scale of an analog meter
        by jorpec
        Hi

I want to change the scale of an analog meter, to monitor the charge of an li-ion single cell, so the needle at the end would point 4.2 volts and the 0 on the meter would point 2.5 volts or so, i tried to add diodes or a zener in series with the meter but the changes of the ambient temperature also changes the voltage value on the meter
I wonder how i can accomplish this so the meter would be precise at any temperature ?

Is it possible to test small ceramic disc capacitor with analogue meter?
        by chth96
I read EBOOK of Testing Electronic Component and found that

"In order to test the small blue resin coated ceramic disk capacitor which has 104 50v specification,it is possible to test this small ceramic capacitor by making use of analogue meter.
Set to times 10Kohm that has 12v output from the probe to check disorder of ceramic capacitor.
It is not uncommon that testing result of digital capacitance meter is okay,But It show shorted reading when you check it with analogue meter."

Is it really possible to test small ceramic disc capacitor with analogue...

Trouble reading BIOS on Dell Precision 3571
        by bk304
I am trying to read the BIOS chip installed in a Dell Precision 3571 so I can remove the administrator password. Processor is a 12th gen i7. The service tag ID is 7QV7VL3 (8FC8).

So far, I have not been able to read the chip. I have done this a few times on older 8FC8 BIOS chips and have not had a problem. The BIOS chip is an XMC XM25QH256CXIQ (U2502 marked on the board). I am using a T48 (TL866-3G) programmer and a pogo pin probe for the WSON8 chip. The programmer auto ID is identifying the chip correctly but the ID check comes up FF FF FF. It should be 20 40 19. Pin detect is OK....

        PS5 HDMI port diode reading?
        by SuperAman
I did an hdmi port repair for a PS5 and I lost the small diode z71 SOD923 on the back of the port. I did a trace repair for pin 19 of the port as well. Without the diode I get no display at all. I tried replacing the diode twice but after I get flux on it the marking comes off so I can't tell if I have it on the right orientation. When I measure I get a reading of 1(open) and 923 in diode mode. Is 923 a normal reading for these and also which side should the reading be with regards to the arrow on the board?...
