    a safety warning!

so the other day i got given a Hot-air rework unit.

while checking it i found a design error.
the result was it was not earthed!

it has a 3pin inlet, a metal case and a metal ended head that uses a mains powered heater in it.

the problem was simple, the earth's are all connected by a screw in the base of the case,
but it was insulated by the powder coating.
so you need to remove the screw and sand/grind some of the coating away inside where the terminals go.
    then reasemble & check it.

so if you have a unit that looks even remotely like these you should check it with a meter between the case and inlet.

Also check (if you are in the US) that the fuse is on the Line side, not on Neutral wire.

that would be down to the power cable,
the fuse holder is integrated into the socket & the socket is an IEC polarised type.

Most of the Tenma products for US has captive power cord, most Euro version have IEC inlet for so they can use difference kind of power plug. It is always best to inspect the units real well first.

How does the station itself perform? Would you recommend it to others?

              it's o.k. for the price.
              about $80 without temperature display.

but if i was paying for one, i'd go for one with digital temp display and airflow display.

to be blunt, the actual business end and the pump dont change much from model to model - just the features of the controller

I've generally found them to be OK but the heating elements rarely last beyond about a year so be prepared to buy a new one. The elements are about £10 each from eBay.

Mounting and Handling Guidelines for TO220 TO220F TO247 Cases / Packages

The TO220, TO220F and TO247 are the popular packages for power devices because of their versatility and ability to dissipate moderate amounts of heat. This application note describes the basic guidelines for handling power MOSFETs in TO220, TO220 and TO247 packages shown in Figure 1. Please note that only mechanical and soldering guidelines are covered here. Additional precautions are required for isolating high voltage rated devices to meet safety regulations.

                    by tongshadow
I got this set for very cheap, it works perfectly but the catch is that the protective coating was damaged. About 45% of the screen had a green tint, you can see exactly where the layer changed colors to a blueish tone (that actually makes everything green).

"Ok, that's probably just the anti-glare layer" - I thought. So using a microfiber cloth and automotive metal polish I was easily able to turn it into a nice mirror.

Unfortunately, the damage was beyond this layer and everything still had a horrible green tint. I initially...

                    PILZ PNOZ X4 Safety Relay
                    by fadi90
                    Hi everyone,

I'm working on repairing a Pilz PNOZ X4 safety relay module. When I opened it up, I found some of the connector pins detached from their pads. I replaced the connector with individual wires, but the issue remains.

The module is set to dual-channel mode with manual start. In this mode:
                    • Y36-Y37 and Y1-Y2 are bridged.
                    • 24VDC is applied across A1-A2.
                    • It monitors two emergency circuits (S11→S12 and S11→S52).
                    • When both are closed (24V present on S12 and S52) and the start button is pressed (S33 connected to S34), the NO contacts (13-14, 23-24, 33-34)
                    ...

                    by dqtech
I have try with 3 different adapter

Dell adapter 40w - warning "Slow Charger" (charge rate 8mW)
Dell adapter 65w - warning "Slow Charger" (charge rate 8mW)
Power Supply Connected with BY-3200 (in bios detect 65w) - okay and no warning (charge rate 25000mW-32000mW)

i already tried update bios and update all driver but problem still persist....any idea to solve this?...

Conformal coating on Samsung U32D970 monitor PSU, do I need to replace after repair?
                    by psyduck
I have a Samsung U32D970 monitor from 2015 I pulled out of the bad hardware pile that turned on and then turned itself back off after a few minutes of use and refused to turn back on. The PSU has part number BN44-00786A, and I found a couple posts about one that had blown with damage to the MOSFETs and PWM controller - but nothing about intermittent failures. I started a new thread and said that I would refresh the solder joints on the board to see if it was just a bad connection and possibly replace the PWM and PFC ICs. I then asked what my next course of action would be after those steps. I...
