    Equipment that you regret buying

what the title says :-) have you ever bought something that you regret the day you got it? For me the Uni-T 803. The accuracy of the unit is a joke... total junk...

Aoyue 968, rubbish piece of junk.
Xytronic soldering iron. Blowing mains fuses. Turned out to be faulty design. Got refund on the unit in the end.

I am investigating so hard before buying new a tool, that I should be called as crime scene inspector.

Especially those days with the help of the internet, the search engine in expert hands it can do miracles.
I am about to discover the build quality of the very latest YIHUA rework stations with an 28L pump.
But up to date I have nothing to nag about.

Many years ago I bought a new Sencore Stereo Signal Generator to repair my Sony receiver. Worked too much made a lot of money and bought a Carver receiver. I put my S.S. # in unit. But only turned it on once! Bought a Heathkit version of a Huntron Tracker. Used it twice. Bought high end logic probes/pulser used less than 5 times. Other stuff too but can't remember what they are! That's how much they got used!

KDM 480W PSU upgrade succes! (opinions?)
              by bauto601
Back in 2020 i bought a (2nd hand) compact ATX psu to replace my current one. My PC case only fits very short ATX power supplies so i didn't really have the choice of buying a decent 80Plus unit. The current unit is a modded YoungYear unit that i made a thread about a while ago:
A "nice" YoungYear unit? - Badcaps

The "new" unit is a KDM-M6480 480W psu, the 480W number is a typical KDM bullshit claim of course, but the 24A rating on the 12V rail seemed reasonable and the "Active PFC" claim gave me a bit of hope that this was going to be decent-ish....

Repair of an LG split AC system indoor unit PCB
              by ngml
I am trying to repair an LG split AC indoor unit, which does not start and gives a CH05 error code.
This indicates an error in the communication between the outdoor and the indoor unit.
The outdoor unit is fine, so the problem is the indoor PCB.
The indoor unit is an LG PC09SQ NSJ (3SNM09JA2FA), and the PCB has the following type number: EAX35907219-1.2 (see photo1)
I changed optocouplers ICO1X & ICO2X and the NPN transistor S9013 which drives optocoupler ICO2X (see photo2), but this did not remedy the fault.

Does anybody have the schematics of this board,...

              Repair Success! Middle Atlantic UPS2200R-IP
              by valvashon
Yesterday I successfully repaired a Middle Atlantic UPS2200R-IP that had inadvertently been used as a surge suppressor at our transmitter site. It has already been replaced with an updated one but it's coming home with me now instead of being e-cycled. To be specific, this is the MA model that has the blue backlit display and has been discontinued, although this design may have been used in many UPS units including the smaller Middle Atlantic ones in this series.

Here's what happened: We experienced a brownout/surge at the site, which damaged the UPS and took our broadcasting...

              Cyberpower cps1500avr not charging batteries
              by carrzkiss
              Hello, all.

              Cyberpower Battery Backup Unit.

I bought two new ML18-12 batteries through Amazon (They have already refunded my money for the two batteries as we thought the batteries might have been bad.)
When I got them in, they were not fully charged. I connected them to the UPS and waited 24 hours before connecting any networking equipment.
In parallel, they read 24v, but within 24 hours, the meter on the front of the unit dropped from 4 to 3 bars on the battery charge indicator.
Checking the voltage, it was down to 22v.
              I quickly removed everything...
