Attenuation Ratio 100:1 Probe & voltage tests

I did run some AC/DC voltage tests in a common 1X/10X probe so to understand it behavior and the measurement were made by a multimeter.

    30V DC (1X) / 15,88V at 10X

    5V AC 100Hz (1X) / 2,40V at 10X

What I am asking is if someone own an 100X probe to measure it and report the actual voltage drop that causes in AC & DC volts.

Is this scope probe used on DMM?
Since typical DMM input impedance is around 10M, the 10X probe has 9M resistor ( in series with probe to increase impedance. That is why you are getting abut 1/2 of the voltage source reading.

Yes sorry my bad, even by been armed with the relative accessories, the hard part for me is to combine knowledge and parts at the time that I am practicing those magic tricks. LOL

Even so I am curious to know even which is the voltage drop from one unbalanced 100x probe.

Re: Attenuation Ratio 100:1 Probe & voltage tests

A 1x/10x scope probe will not be suitable to obtain accurate readings with a multimeter. Scope probes are built using nichrome resistance wire to minimize AC peaking due to cable capacitance. The usual (safe) multimeter might be good to 600-1000v. If you really need to measure in the 10,000 volt range, a high voltage probe made for TV repair would be best. In that case you will have a 100x probe. Many have a simple built in meter, so you won't risk damaging your DVM. Adequate probe insulation mandatory. Accuracy at the 10,000 volt level or greater is usually not too important. If you use any HV probe with a meter or a scope, be very certain that you have a solid ground at the probe, otherwise the full HV will be supplied to the DVM or the scope. Last, if a HV AC waveform is needed, no direct connection is necessary. Just hold the probe near the source of the HV. A good example is to hold a 1x10x scope probe near to any electronic florescent lamp to get a good scope waveform.

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

          Assuming...

Lenovo L490 Ram voltage circuit malfunction

          Hello friends,

Looking for some guidance here. The RAM voltage circuit on this motherboard keeps burning out PU301 which is a RT8231AGQW. Copy of the board with the burnt chip attached with some voltage measurements and copy of the schematics also included.

I think I've checked almost every component in the circuit, but when I change the RT8231, the laptop starts I have 1.2V on the inductor for about 10 seconds and then the RT8231 goes south and no more voltage on the inductor. All other voltages on the laptop are good, this is the only one conking out for a reason I...

Panasonic TH-L42D25A checking the PSU output voltage
          by electron_jj
Hi Everyone, I am new to this forum. I have a Panasonic LED TV which doesnt turn on and is blinking 4 times repeatedly when I turn on the switch. The TV does not respond to the remote control so I had to turn on using the physical switch on the side of the TV. When I turn on the switch the 4 x blinking starts and repeat itself until I turn off the TV. There is a black screen. I turned off the light in the room to check the panel and I think there is no backlight as far as I can tell.

I have been inspecting and testing the capacitors and diodes in the power supply board to try to...

Trip light 2400 watt line conditioner bought used issue with low voltage oscillation going on between relays
          by sam_sam_sam
I found two capacitors on the board and one of the leads on one capacitor had bad soldering joint and the other joint connections not much better and there were several soldering joints that way to much flux around the joint redid several of them

The capacitors were a non brand that I did not recognize they got replaced and now it does not oscillating between relay but what concerns me a little bit is when the voltage is a little bit low the output voltage is around 130 volts and then drops down to 115 volts this happens around 105 to 108 volts if remember correctly

          Now...
