    Micrometer??

    An interesting ad. http://phoenix.craigslist.org/nph/ele/2321162995.html

Just when I thought I'd seen it all, something new comes along.

If you are new to this forum, we can help a lot more if you please post clear focused pictures (max resolution 2000x2000 and 2MB) of your boards using the manage attachments button so they are hosted here. Information and picture clarity compositions should look like this post.

We respectfully ask that you make some time and effort to read some of the guides available for basic troubleshooting. After you have read through them, then ask clarification questions or report your findings.

I don't think that measures down to 'micros', just 'millis'.
They should call it a millimeter.

            Re: Micrometer??

Hmm, Micro (µM) is 0.001 millimeter (mm)
In everyday talk a thousandth of a millimeter, well, everyday talk outside of the US that is

But maybe you are right, it might just have two decimals...
I don't know whats more sad, this incorrect ad for a multimeter or the fact that I almost got annoyed with kaboom posting a picture of a Micrometer since it just takes the all too obvious (in my world) and over does it

Confused why a capacitor would read OL
              by Maximasraine
I'm working on--really just learning how to repair--an Acer Chromebook that no longer works. As far as what is wrong with it, when you plug in the charger, the light on said charger goes out. The first thing I did, then, was check the power rails for a short, which seems to be the main culprit in many instances, but not in this one. No shorts, but I did find something that confuses me. From the attachment, you can see that I circled a capacitor. The reason I circled it was that it reads "OL" (In resistance mode). I changed it, but the issue persists. This is the opposite of a short,...

Confused when it comes to "I" and "1" when it comes to SMD marking codes
              by mitsu2k
Hello folks, I seem to have a lot of trouble when it comes to distinguishing markings on SMD components especially when it comes to the question of whether it is a 1 or an I. for example, I see components marked NI. It looks just like that. However, I cannot tell if that "I" might be a number one instead. Is there a rule of thumb that manufacturers use when using these characters? Attached is an example. This is just one example out of many I come across but it's a good illustration of my point. I appreciate any input....

              Headphone wires.... confused!
              by budwich
I picked up a "beat up" set of sennheiser headphones (hd201). The phono plug end seemed to have an issue such that most of the time only one ear would work but by compressing / bending the jacket of the phono plug, I could cause the other ear to work. Must be a phono jack (3 pin) problem. So I cut it off and have solder based replacement. BUT... the wiring seems "mysterious" to me. I can't see how this can work or even ever worked. Attached is a picture of the wires (less the phono plug). One sheath has what I believe is two enameled wires while the other has basically...

Need help from Audio Expert troubleshooting a no sound fault (everything else works) SonyZX66i https://www.manualslib.com/manual/15...page=57#manual

I replaced the STK 412-150 chip. I have no voltage on ic pin 16 (bias) & no negative voltage on pin 12 which is probably why the bias is 0. I checked the voltages on Q610 and have 71v on both base & emitter but 0v on the collector.

I'm not sure where the missing negative voltage on the collector should come from. Does it mean that the transistor Q610 is bad?
