    SMD stations

Not so much TEST equipment, just equipment in general.....Got an 852D SMD station today direct from Hong Kong so I'm sure everyone knows what the instruction manual looks like. It came with a part I have no clue what it is or where it goes and I'm hoping someone may be able to inform me on this part.

Chip "popper". Attaches to handle and is slid under chip you want to remove. As you heat the chip, this allows you to apply a little upward pressure more evenly. Reduces the chances of ripping a solder pad off the board, or damaging surrounding components. Many chips are glued down during the manufacturing process.

For removal, I suggest obtaining a product called Chip-Quik:

Ahh that makes sense. Thanks. Probably a little easier than tweezers too.

I've got the cheaper Duratool station which doesn't have readout.

Apart from tweezers or the pick-up tool you have vacuum tools are popular.

Don't know what your experience is of hot air - I've just started and am getting used to what is needed to do the job easily and correctly.

        I've bought solder paste
NoClean flux and a bottle for dispensing it.

I've yet to use any attachment apart from the thin tube.

        Some desoldering videos.
