Re: H-E-L-P! How do I learn to use my new oscilloscope?
Or remove the earth pigtails from the probes.
Use the probes on both channels
Use the probe tips to obtain measurements while setting the scope MATH function to A - B.
Still have to observe the probes voltage limit but grounding issues are avoided...

Re: USB Micro scope suggestion
I have that too - I use Yawcam to view the output.
I use it to look at chip ID etc handheld - the stand is sort of ok...Last edited by Chriso; 04-20-2015, 05:49 PM.

Re: EDS ESR Meter Review
I've been using the CapAnalyser for many years and it suits me better than any other meter I've tried.
Some folk will say it's antiquated as it doesn't have a digital display but I have that on the 'Blue' meter and don't particularly like it.
Big pluses....
it's so easy to use and automatically discharges a charged cap
tweezer probes are excellent
has adjustable DCR
Fantastic bit of kit that I wouldn't be without but it is expensive - as I use it commercially that doesn't matter.
The leak...

Re: Is this ESR meter any good?
I have not used one but own several other Peak meters which over the years have been very useful and totally reliable.
"Measuring capacitance at the same time" is slightly misleading as you have to remove the component from the circuit.
When you buy one make sure it's an updated version which takes reading 'one handed' older units required you to use two hands to apply the probes and another to press 'test'.

Re: Arcade Infrared Emmiter
Try http://www.jammaplus.co.uk/forum/default.asp
there's a Raw Thrills specialist there
There's no such thing as a 260 ohm resistor - they will be miniature inductors.
Terminator gun failure is often due to the idiots issuing cable tie guns to the assemblers who then cut through the wiring.Re: Arcade Infrared Emmiter<br /> <... no such thing...

Re: ACPI Controller
Google tells me it is AHCI that is causing the problem and setting native IDE is a cure....

Re: ACPI Controller
I think you want to get into the Bios and set the hard drive mode to native IDE or not use AHCI.

Re: SMD stations
I've got the cheaper Duratool station which doesn't have readout.
Apart from tweezers or the pick-up tool you have vacuum tools are popular.
Don't know what your experience is of hot air - I've just started and am getting used to what is needed to do the job easily and correctly.
I've bought solder paste ...

Re: ESR meter for a novice
I've been using a CapAnalyzer 88a for more years than most folk have known what ESR meant - I use it professionally for mostly CRT & SMPS faults.
I also have a 'Blue' ESR meter for low value high voltage caps in CRTs.
The CapAnalyser is by a mile the easiest to use as it comes with tweezer probes, discharges caps, measures DCR and is adjustable.
Using an ESR meter is a black art - it's not pass/fail...you have to have an understanding...
