    Re: more win10 stuff

the *only* stuff i cant run on linux is stuff using the usb & parallel port with custom drivers.
if someone writes a linux wrapper for that the way they did for wifi then that's the end of my xp laptop.

and i hope it happens soon, because i'm growing tired of running malware bytes on it every time i want to install or update something!

Anyone want to install Win 10 and do some independent verification of his claims? I wouldn't be surprised if it's true, but on the other hand, their questionable source is a good point.

well the source gives the destinations for the data,
so it probably wouldnt be hard for anybody with a win10 setup to just search the drive for plaintext of the url's - it's a start.

No, we must just wise up the world to not use this intrusive coding disaster.

                Re: more win10 stuff

hosts file wont work, neither will any other software running on the o.s. because the o.s. is running under it at a higher level.

you need a router that supports firewall / blacklists such as openWRT.

Steve Gibson ran a Win10 podcast in SecurityNow last week, worth watching.
It's episode 519 and the Win10 talk starts at 1:02:00 if you want to skip forward to it.

i wonder if it's creating hidden stuff.

i dont know about 7, but on xp and 98' you could create invisible folders & files simply by starting the filename with a % or $ or something.

the only way to see them was by booting Linux.

Its $ and it works on Win7 and 8.

Select "show hidden files folder or drives" reveals it. No need for Linux.

then $ is NOT it, because what i'm talking about was hidden even from dos.
                            it was REALLY hidden.

and one of the things it was used for was to create a cache of all pages visited by IE
i discovered this years ago after wondering where over 300meg of my HD space had gone!

The standard dir command won't show hidden files, folders or drives if they are set to hidden.

Sounds like the index.dat file you are referring to.

no, it was hundreds upon hundreds of html files in a cache folder with a % or something on the front.
                                totally invisible without Linux.
it was NOT using the usual "hidden" or "system" flags.
