    Vizio vw42lfhdtv

I have a vizio vw42lfhdtv and it only has an amber light. It does not change to white when I press the power button or use the remote. The only voltage i have is stndby 5v. No p_s on, 12v or 24v. Any suggestions????

It could be an eeprom problem, this is a known flaw with many options for repair.

Or it could be a bad voltage regulator or other component on the main board.

I have a Vizio 32" that has a bad dc/dc converter on it, causing it not to power on.

You can jumper 5.3v stby to pson to check 12v & 24v. I would disconnect mainboard first.

Is there a way to check the eeprom? I will post pictures later.

for sure, that lets you test for 12 and 24v, if its there, it might not be power supply, if no 12 and 24, could be power supply, careful when working with power supply, HIGH VOLTAGE, on primary side.

if you mean eeprom on mainboard, your getting ahead of yourself, if you don't get the proper voltages from the power supply, the tv will notwork right, power comes in to power supply, then goes out to other boards.

I thought it stated that the 5v stndby trigger the 5v p_s on which in turns on 12v and 24v. But I will read again.

At this point, check the voltages of the regulator IC's on the main board.

Here are couple of pictures. I did find one cap with a bulge. Will check the voltage regs. later.

                    That is a good start.
To remove that cap, you will use flux and ADD more solder to the two legs using at least 40W iron, 60W is preferred, with wide tip, move the tip back and forth between the two leg while pulling on the cap to get it off the board.

Never seen a cap on main board bulge. Definitely bad, may be others.

Edit...It is next to a VR so it may have over-volted

That cap looks to be for the output filter for that U20 ADJ regulator IC.
If the cap is not shorted out then you can solder in another cap in parallel to test and see if you will get PS_ON.
You need to see what DCV you have on the ADJ/GND left PIN, output center pin, and input right pin.

ok, making progress, if you unplug ps-on connector from power supply to mainboard, do the backlights come on?

No the backlights do not come on. But I do have 24v on the inverter boards

I'm no expert, but that could point to maybe something wrong with inverter.

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

                                          Assuming...

                                          Hi everyone,

I was trying to repair this Vizio 32 inch and have isolated it to the EEPROM. The symptoms are it does not respond to the power button and so no backlights or any indication that the button was even pressed. Applying freeze spray to the EEPROM while the set is unplugged, and then plugging it in and all is well.

Now I know I can buy pre-programmed EEPROMS for $15.00 or so, but I wanted to do this myself. So, the original EEPROM is Winbond 25Q64FSIG. I ordered this but received a 25Q64JSIG, which has slightly different timing characteristics. Well, being hopeful...

I tore apart my instrument cluster for my 2008 Toyota Corolla made in 2007 in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada and pcb location: IC6=EEPROM is a surface mounted device with part # of 93C46W7, some claim the EEPROM out of a Camry part # 93C56 will allow odometer to roll over 299 999 KM or miles. The data sheet for both is below:

Anyone know if the Camry one will work on my Corolla?. And which EEPROM reader/writers do you all recommend I purchase that will allow me to read the old values of the old...

Hello all, I've been looking into this portable air conditioner's remote control and can't find what could be causing the problem - or possibly this remote is just terribly designed.

The remote only works at exactly 3V - if I drop it any lower, using my bench power supply, to say, 2.9V then the remote will not flash the display and turn off. I don't have any AAA batteries that are exactly 1.5V each so I'm not sure if this remote is designed this way - to only use the freshest possible batteries, or if there's a failed component in the mix.

                                          I can't find any schematics...
