    New PC Warranties?

Am looking for a new PC. Am thinking about a whole new system from Dell, Gateway, HP....

Have checked the postings and they all seem to have some models with Bad Caps!

Appreciate anyones experience with the various PC mfrs as to how well they handled these defective units? Am esp interested in out of warranty problems!

Am also wondering if anyone has contacted these PC mfrs to find out how they will handle any future problems?

    Thanks

i have stopped dealing with system builders. it is maybe ok if you have 1000 dell pcs in your company but if you have 1 then it is difficult for support. better to build a computer yourself if you can and then deal with individual manufacturers warranty for each part.

I was clued in to this link by a co-worker:

        http://www1.us.dell.com/content/segm...=us&l=en&s=dfo

then click on Dell Outlet - Home or Business & Education, depending on your specific needs.

Several of us have bought refurbished units, and been very pleased with them. Mine has all Rubycon ZL, with the exception of one little yellow Fujitsu, which I'm watching closely. My Dimension 4600 was about a year old when I bought it, so I figure the previous owner got to deal with the bad caps or whatever, and I got a great machine as a result. Prices are excellent, too.

Before I started researching this "bad cap" problem, I thought Dell was the Best PC system builder!

After reading this http://www.gripe2ed.com/scoop/story/.../30/0141/79530 am having second thoughts but do not know how others have handled this same problem.

Would be interested anyones experience with Dell or other system builder(s).

          Thanks

          Gene

The problems with the small-form factor systems have been well-documented, on this forum and elsewhere, and the Dell GX270s in particular. I understand why they're handling the issue in the way that they are (take care of the biggest customers first, because they spend the most money with Dell). That's not to say that I agree with it. If it were me, I would hire individuals to do "job-shop" repairs in the locations that are affected, rather than trying to sub-contract repairs to a few locations.

However, bad experience with one model of system shouldn't be used as a ruler to measure the company. Look at the Ford Pinto. A very poor design; that doesn't mean all Fords are junk (all Ford haters may keep their opinions to themselves!)

My Dimension 4600 desktop mini-tower has a case fan and a separate fan and channel for the CPU that brings in outside air, and doesn't recirculate case air. In my opinion, it's an excellent design, and has been very reliable for over a year now (not one crash or BSoD).

Still no official word from Dell, I had a nice chat with one of our IS/IT people about it...generally they call DELL and a new mainboard is shipped, but we have more than a handfull of their systems...last time I posted about it, over 600 machines..now it's way higher...the main problem now seems to be the smaller heatsink on the GX270's...so everything is ordered with the "High Performance" heatsink to avoid that problem.

                USB problems?
                by Hondaman
Recently I discovered my SSD died (OCZ/Toshiba 240 GB). It was in a USB enclosure, attached to the Linksys WRT-AC1200 router. Since then I removed the USB enclosure and attached it to my Win7 PC (AMD 8150 CPU, 970 chipset, 64 GB RAM). I also gathered one or two other USB enclosures to figure out what is going on.

(I suspect that I lost quite a few MP3 and FLAC files I recently ripped from my audio CDs, I think I lost very little un-replaceable stuff.)

I think it is IMPOSSIBLE for Win7 to have any problems with a USB enclosure as long as Win7 knows how to speak to the...

Lenovo 11e problems (any sata hdds are not recognized, sleep battery drain)
                by clabr
Need help to solve some problems with this laptop.

After working in bed with it one night and heating up too much (probably the cause of this problems) the sata HDD OS windows froze
After restart the original Sata HDD was not recognized anymore (but works fine in other laptops or PCs)

Tried connecting other good Sata 2.5 HDDs but not one is working in this laptop anymore (not the original nor others)

Before this had happened I observed some other problems:
When I tried replacing original mecanical HDD with a SSD HDD could not get them...

Lenovo X13-Yoga Gen 1: hibernation problems
                by rumpumpel1
I have a Lenovo X13-Yoga Gen 1 that has problems with hibernation mode. When the laptop goes to hibernation mode - either via the start menu or after a time-out - after a short period of activity where the power-on LED flashes, the power consumption should go down to almost 0 and the LED should go out. Most of the time, however, the power consumption indicates further CPU activity and the power LED remains on, but there is no image. Sometimes the CPU activity stops after a few minutes, sometimes not at all. If the laptop enters this state, it can only be brought back to life by a long press on...
