well if you want a backplane, i like scythe for that too. or xigmatek, but those are probably too expensive.

why not mount the fan on the back of the case and fit tubing between the fan & heatsink?

that way your sucking cold air in, or blowing the hot air out.
and you dont need to worry about how the fan fits on the sink.

you mean the old dell method. thats how they cool their units- a rear fan and a duct.

also the rackmount server method, ratdude. i see no problem with that. as long as the airflow is all calculated.

lol dell, "dumbasses enjoying laborious lobotomies" or whatever you want.

                Well, so far so good

My CPU is now sitting at 40 degrees with the case at 35.

The fan did touch the first RAM chip, but all I had to do was slide it up a bit.

I'm not sure I like the scythe fan that I put in the case though, because it has an annoying hum.

                  Maxxarcade,

Was this version you got like this? This artic version I was talking about does have 3 lug per side clip design. I'm surprised you found one with one lug version. How come?

When I mentioned a single lug per side, I was talking about the retention bracket on my motherboard.

PS: That new temps is what you should see and less noise. Also I do not buy any "generic" fans. The scythe is one of these as their blade design is not unique and researched properly. The Noctua fans are ones you should look for in fan blade design especially.

                      http://www.acousticpc.com/noctua_fans.html

Sunon fan buzz and rattle due to their harsher motor impulses (by design when they converted to their patented wafer style motor) coupled with loose bearing assembly. Which I dropped long ago for this reasons. Thermaltake, coolermaster etc were lottery on whatever to get good fan or junky fans. So I avoided.

I prefer: NMB, Sankyo, Delta and Nidec, all are ball bearing and tight, no rattles and they run smoothly and prandon the chiche silky smooth. Arctic heatsinks used decent fan which I was surprised so left it on and recommended this to you.

Ah, you can get another retention bracket from looking around on the market/ebay that has 3 lugs instead of one. Also there are heatsinks with bolt on design instead of using the bracket itself.
