I got a computer in that they say that they can not log into it, forgot password or something like that. Here is what it is Acer laptop, Vista on it, guest account is getting "group policy client service failed the login" error so there is no account to be able to log into the system. I have tried a few different programs to try to get rid of the password. Some i have used before with no problem. They all say that they work with xp through 7 and work on my custom machine with each of the OS's, but when i try them on this laptop, none can find the SAM info or mount that drive to erase the password. To me it sounds like it is either some kind of a security program installed or a corrupt user account login files. probably the first. has anyone ever run into this or have any ideas?

Re: password removal
I got hirens boot CD here.. that is what i tried. the laptop has 3 partitions.. restore info on one, OS on the 2nd and open space for fioles or something on the 3rd. the 2nd and 3rd are both NTFS. It can read the 3rd partition, just not the second. I tried "Offline NT Password & Registry Editor" and it could not load to the 2nd partition, but could to the 3rd. If it was because it was sata, then it shou.ld not load to the 3rd either, but it does so i did not think it was because it was sata. When i tried to manually put the path in for the 2nd to where the SAM info is, it could not go there. I tried this program from the Hirens boot CD and from burning the program by itself. I have also tried the other programs that were on the Hirens boot CD for password removal and none would work, nor find the SAM info. I have the newest version so it is not that it is the outdated version.

I love putting bad caps and flat batteries in fire and watching them explode!!
No wonder it doesn't work! You installed the jumper wires backwards

Re: password removal
true, but does not do you any good if you did not have the old password either.. i was given neither the new, nor old password.. also, there is one under c:\windows\repair too, but that will bring it back to more factory or when it was first installed standards. but still , like i said before, if there was a password put on from when it was first installed, then still does you no good.

Re: password removal
i did that on a 2000 pc once, the original SAM admin pass blank - use that one but of course no other user accounts
My fav (as in easiest) is to use LCP or or one of those offline editors. what are chances an endloser is going to use a very "strong" password anyway? dictionaries are free, but doubt that works when SAM is corrupt
