    Thinking about a new LCD

I'm thinking about getting a new 22" and setting my LG 19" as my secondary. A 22" as primary and a sweet little 19" as secondary, both running off DVI driven by my Radeon 4850... I think I'm getting a boner just imagining it.

What spawned this idea was that my Dell E172FPb repair didn't go as planned. Turns out I have shorted trannies. It's $50+ for a new inverter board, not worth it for a 5-year-old VGA only monitor with a somewhat scratched panel in my book.

After some searching, I think I found my messiah. All the new Dell LCDs I've seen at school are Genesis-based and are pretty damn sturdy compared to the shit consumer LCDs out right now. What do you guys think of...

    Option two (LED):

Hopefully that $50 off thing isn't temporary.

OK I read up some more and I'm not digging all that dynamic brightness "Green" tree hugger BS that comes with the LED model. Dynamic brightness, power management, etc. etc. bitch please. That stuff pisses me off to no extent. I like my monitors to stay ON and at full brightness, tree huggers and vegetarians the world round who insist on saving energy can suck my dick. When I first bought my current monitor (LG 19") I almost returned it because it was set to some dynamic brightness bullshit by default and I couldn't figure out how to disable it. (I finally figured it out, else I would have returned it for something else).

What are your guys thoughts on the first one I linked to?

Geez weirdlookinguy....that sort of stuff really touches a nerve with you. My monitor had dynamic contrast by default but it is very easy to disable. It is a Samsung 220BW. A couple of years old now I think. Decent monitor but there are a couple of things I would have liked. For example, hardware aspect ratio control. My graphics card could not do it through the software drivers for some reason. Having said this, it is not the worst problem to have, I rarely game now.

your opinion might change when you are talking a laptop. your battery life goes in the toilet when you are a brightness pig. i lately have been more conservative with brightness on my netbook in hopes of longer battery life.

but what if you got the same brightness but it used less energy? thats what the dynamic contrast was supposed to do. whether it did, idk. all the external monitors at my house are CRT (some were freebies from the past, the rest are a result of being not too rich).

Re: Thinking about a new LCD

Laptops are a different story. I'm talking Desktop LCDs here. Most people don't notice or care if their monitor dims a bit when they close a bright window and their dark desktop picture shows. I can, and it bugs the shit out of me. I don't even have the greatest eyesight or anything, but dynamic dimming just pops out at me like morning wood during math class first period at school. It's fine for video, I know most LCD TVs do it, but for static images I want a fixed contrast and brightness. Saving $5 a year in energy costs is not worth my monitor bugging the shit out of me 24/7.

In a classroom full of white girls (I have a thing for them).... oh gawddd....

Anyways I think the thing is scrapped guys. I've been having some trouble at home, nothing too bad but I might be wanting to move out within the next year or so (18 in three months) and I need to start putting away some serious cash if I want to do that. It's been mostly arguments about going to church and what time I can come home at night. If that doesn't improve I might just move out of here. I'm hitting my prime right now, and I can't spend it not going out and having a good time because I have set curfews. Like I said, it's not at the point to where I am seriously considering moving out as soon as I'm 18 but I want to have a nice little pile of dough stashed away just in case I decide to take that route later on. That ain't gonna happen if I keep spending all my money on electronics

My little 19" LG kicks ass, aside from being a bit small I have no qualms with it whatsoever. No need to replace it.

14" MacBook LCDs - has Apple re-introduced a new serialisation type?
                  by ronaldopdias
                  Hi all,

Since about a month or two ago, we've observed a new type of 'serialisation' on the LCDs and we're just curious whether anyone has seen this
                  • New LCDs straight from the factory (not programmed)- if the Mac is restarted or switched on from a cold boot, you must close the lid, then open it again (so two cycles of opening and closing the screen) in order to get display.
                  • Transplant the IC onto another screen:
                    • If the model and revision match exactly then it will perform as normal
                    • If the manufacturer matches exactly BUT its a different revision, the colours are mostly in
                  ...

KingWin ABT-650MM 650 Watt ATX PSU [PCB: SW8835REV:A]
                  by momaka
For today's thread, I have a KingWin ABT-650MM ATX PSU. Official web page with the PSU specs is still up and can be found here:
                  http://www.rmac.kingwin.com/products.../abt_650MM.asp

I just can't help it when I see a broken / for parts PSU on eBay that's listed for cheap and looks at least somewhat interesting. Well, OK, I won't lie – on the outside, this PSU looks anything but interesting. It's a plain gray box with colorful “spaghetti cables”.

What mostly drew me into buying it is its 2x PCI-E power connectors...

Sony Dav-dz350 no power on secondary
                  by sarry86
Hi guys, I have this power supply which has a problem providing power on the secondary portion, seems like there's no power past the transformers, I checked the PFF4N80 which had shorted and replaced it with a new one, I then checked the optocoupler part and found that the TL341 IC too had shorted out so I replaced it with a new one as well, I measured everything on the secondary side of my power supply and I found a 1N5819 diode shorted, I replaced it with a new one, nothing else seem to have a problem, I am out of ideas, please anyone help me out what should I look after...

Secondary out 32 volts AC getting 146 volts DC do not understand
                  by sam_sam_sam
I will post a picture of this transformer setup tomorrow I hope someone can shed some light on how this
could be ( has a bridge rectifier with no capacitors on the DC side on other thing that is strange about this setup is that negative side of the bridge rectifier also goes to machine ground )

Now if check one wire that to the machine ground and wire one tap that goes to the bridge rectifier the voltage is really wired and when you check the other tap wire that goes to other side of the bridge rectifier this voltage is also is really weird but not 32 volts AC side of the...

ok i have this washing machine that a woodlouse killed my but the washing machine killed the louse for sure .but the viper chip is in question . dont see any shorts and can see the internal diode is intact . only thing i can find is r27 100 ohm resistor that acted as a fuse was burned open i mistankey replaced with 1k and was greeted to a nice smoke show and blackened board but was just soot . am thinking replace with 100 ohm and see what happens then if all fails sack the switching supply and wire in a proper supply as have lots of that shit in stock already . the board is the same as on this...
