Window XP Product Actvation Not Working

I using this windows XP computer right now
I am using My-Pal to get on the internet which it seem to work OK on most website

I can not update internet explore on Microsoft website either ( I tried to install it from thumb drive but it gave a error message that it dose not support the version of internet explorer that I have )
Which that part I do not care about one way or the other

I guess I will have to active it by phone unless someone know another way to do this

I just use corporate editions for any remaining XP boxes. No activation.

You got the wrong installer for Internet Explorer, very likely. Note that you can't use later than version 8. (IE8)

I have version 5 on it right now

I tried install version 7 and version 8 no go with either one

I can give you a copy of the media, but you'll have to scare up a VLK....they're out there, probably not too hard to find.

Sam doesn't indicate whether it is a "beige box" or a "brand name" computer. In the latter case, hunting down XP install media from that manufacturer will usually eliminate the need for activation (I have a folder of various media that I use for machines, here).

[This is a big advantage to sticking with mainstream hardware -- no need to EVER go on-line]

In some cases, you have to trick the media (HP likes to try to tie their media to specific models) to running.

You can also modify a retail ISO to convert it to a manufacturer specific issue.

And, of course, you can always hunt down keys for XP on-line.

You've got a point....but VLK/Corporate edition negates it all anyway....

Just out of curiosity.....does an x86 VLK for XP work with an x64 corporate media? I don't have XP64 Corporate media, but I know there was an edition......so if I tracked down this media, would my x86 XP keys work on it?

If it's a corporate key, you have to install using corporate media.

What version of XP, look at system properties (right click My Computer, Properties) Post the first 8 digiits under Registered to:
XXXXX-YYY-*******-*****
Just post the X & Y
That key provided is for Pro-SP2-VLK

Yes. I've never installed a VLK here (though see below) as I want the ability to expose a machine to the outside world (e.g., this one) even if I don't ever do it. Using the OEM "self-activating" media means a machine can't tattle on me as having done something "shady".

No idea. I suspect it wouldn't. For the same reason that install media for (e.g.) Home and Pro versions aren't compatible.

I set up a "lab" for a local nonprofit and used VLKs for XP and Office version <mumble> -- but, those were "legally" issued by MS to the nonprofit (there is a place where you can request licenses for nonprofit use). Technically, the VLKs were authorized for 20 copies -- which I had to just make a note of as I was building the machines -- but I don't know if the machines check with each other to verify that count is never exceeded.

Yes but it for a Windows XP professional which I do not have a copy but there are no device drivers for this version a least I have not found any
