I'm not in a "Grey Area" anymore KeriJane. I'm on the Mint Gloria Linux and everything is green! I'm using it in the live CD mode just to see what its about. Since I have not tried to do anything "real" with it yet its still great...LOL

People intent upon copying DRM-protected stuff are going to do so anyway and will circumvent the DRM in the blink of an eye .

It's a shame those CSS nasties don't sell a Linux variant of a decoder so that honest people can pay them their stinking license fee so as to watch DVDs on a Linux box without going into grey areas.

Installed the Mint Gloria last night but I must have goofed on my user name. It didn't like anything that I entered when it rebotted after the install. Going to reinsatll it now and see what happens...LOL

Put the Mint back on. Did the updates, and installed some extra stuff. Tried to find that libdvdcss4 for free but I couldn't. I did find and emulator called "wine." Next I got a bright idea! It is a windows emulator so I should be able to load my Power DVD progie in Mint with it. Tried it and it installed Power DVD. When I tried to use it the screen was only in 256 colors, and it wouldn't play a movie. Now I went back and tried one of the players that came with mint and it could now play the css movies that it choked on before. What happened here? Did Mint barrow a codec from Power DVD to do this or what?

Requests to Intel Flash Programming Tool for Linux Ubuntu x86_64
              by tsavpyn
              Dear all,
I forgot my BIOS password of my Surface Pro 3, I searched for solutions for a long time and knew that by using FPT to dump my bios to bin file and using decryptor, I can get my BIOS password.
Now I have a problem that I am unable to dump my BIOS into bin file.

My Surface Pro 3 currently runs on Ubuntu 22.04, with Secure Boot enabled and Boot From SSD Only.

I searched for FPT but there is no Linux version and none of them work.
I hereby request a copy of Intel Flash Programming Tool for Linux x64.
I would really appreciate it if anyone...

Evaluating Mechanical Hard Drives SMART Data in Linux (Ubuntu) Using the Disks Utility.
              by abajor
I've gotten into the habit of Looking at peoples Mechanical Hard drives with a Ubuntu thumb drive to boot their system.
I understand the raw values are not really uniform between manufacturers, but I have noticed that high seek and read error raw values at the very least correlate to a drive that is going to have sub par access time, and extremely slow OS booting.
The odd thing is I've often seen very high seek and read error rates on drives with fairly low on time.

Does anybody have any other takes on evaluating smart data? I've used Crystal Disk Info, It seems to present...

              When did the problem happen?
My laptop had dual boot setup, ubuntu and windows 10.
It already had a moklist error, that would occur when i tried to boot ubuntu.

MS Surface Book 3 - Keyboard works only in UEFI/Linux
              by survivalbloke
This is a very weird issue which I'm having trouble finding a common thread.

The keyboard is registering keypresses in either the UEFI, or a live Linux USB environment - I used Ubuntu for testing. The keyboard backlight is lit.

The keyboard is registering keypresses in Windows or any Windows-related bootable device. For example, it does not work in Hirens Recue or a Windows 11 bootable installer.

When booted to Windows, not only is the keyboard not registering keypresses, but my USB keyboard is not either!

              USB mouse and integrated trackpad...
