Here, she uses a 7010. I can't recall the last time SHE had to put a CD/DVD in the tray so all she needs access to is the power button. And, that's easy to find without having it "in your face".
Nowadays, I think most folks can live with the "standard" peripherals. When was the last time you had someone ask for a parallel port? serial? floppy? -- and each of those WERE "standard peripherals" at one point!
And, even a 250G drive is adequate for many users.
OTOH, I want to talk to my SCSI peripherals, SAS arrays, RS485 devices, etc. And, each of those need HBAs.
And I can barely fit my executables on a *500G* drive -- let alone the ancillary files that they each need.

 so I put in 4gb, and i3 2100T, 320gb 7mm hitachi and upgraded the wifi card from a intel wireless 1000 to a wireless n 2230. I put mint 19.3 XFCE and she runs great.
