    Laptop backlight issue

I've been having this problem with my Toshiba P25 laptop recently. The screen backlight won't come on at times. There's a standby switch around the left corner of the palmrest towards the screen. Basically it is a switch that once pressed the backlight turns off and when released the backlight turns on If the backjlight doesn't come on and I jam that up and down a few times the backlight comes on and works.... I have a feeling this may be a dirty switch? Am I correct in saying this?

    Thanks.

Could be. Or the little switch that turns off your screen when you close it. Some microswitches you have to actually replace. Once you take them apart its harder to get them back together than just soldering on a new one.

      Re: Laptop backlight issue

I'm wondering if the screen cable is busted or not? cause in addition to the backlight issue, the screen sometimes goes fuzzy and it goes back to normal once you tap the area where the cable connector is located. Re-plugging that screen cable solves the issues for maybe a few days and then it does it again...

since the backlight control signal is likely on the video cord, that might be it.

          Try replacing the switch.
If that fails, try replacing the inverter.

Do you have a single cable to the screen from the chassis or two+?

Yank the battery and check the switch with a continuity tester for intermittent operation.

The backlight and video signal harness are usually kept separate to prevent interference.

To turn the backlight on there is usually a separate BL ON input to the inverter that voltage is applied over.

The backlight VCC and GND are always connected when 5 volts for example or possibly VCC switched by a transistor (voltage varies by inverter) is applied to BL ON the inverter starts.

Backlight brightness is controlled with another separate inverter input a variable voltage from 0-5 volts for example controls the brightness no input 0V allows full brightness.

I'm making a few generalizations but laptop inverters are surprisingly similar to each other only varying a bit in circuit design and in size due to the size bulbs they drive.

                  HP Probook 450 G8 Boardview+Schematics - screen backlight issue
                  by trepachka
I am just wondering if anyone has boardview+schematics for HP Probook 450 G8.

Computer is missing screen backlight. The backlight fuse must be kaput. I know the fuse is located on the motherboard because we tried a different working screen and it, too is missing backlight.

Perhaps, if the boardview+schematics are not available, someone can point out where the screen backlight fuse is located. Thanks.

Samsung UE48JU7000 screen issue after backlight replacement
                  by ScHAmPi
                  Hi all,

Because of two bright spots and a couple of dark spots I decided to replace the backlights in my Samsung UE48JU7000. See attached photos:

I thought all went well, but after full assembly and testing it out it turns out not all is fine. The backlights are completely fine but I have some weird issues on the right half of the screen. Since I didn't really touch the T-CON board (apart from taking out the ribbons of the display and reconnecting them on assembly) it would be weird that the issue is with the T-CON board... But based on the behavior of the service...

                  by Cornito
                  Hello Team,

I'm back with another backlight issue that I thought was simple, but it turned out to be more complex than expected.

Let me provide a brief history: The TV was working well, then one day, the backlight started and shut down. I thought I had an LED issue leading to this behavior, so I replaced the LEDs with brand new ones. However, the issue remains the same.

Next, I replaced the electrolytic capacitors attached to the LED power supply, but the results were the same. I then replaced the driver, a OB3365RP, and did it twice due to the same result....

AOC U34G3XM, new monitor, black screen with backlight on, possible shortcircuit during dissassembly
                  by turmix
Hello, I'm working on a new deskmod pc project and have a problem with my monitor, an AOC U34G3XM, well, I may have bricked it.

The monitor was dismanteled and the separate parts parts integrated in the desk. the screen panel alone is on the upper part, and main board/video board + power board on the back of the desk (not enough place on the cover to fit it)
At first everything was working smoothly, then I decided to change the connexion between the video board and the screen for a longer one. Still working fine

During another reassembly, I made a mistake, and...

                  Dear all,

For a friend I'm trying to repair an Acer Swift 3 laptop (SF314-42). I'm not a professional, but have some experience (both as amateur and professional) in working with electronic design and repair of musical instruments.

The issue with the Acer laptop is the following:
It was bought new and used (not heavily) at home for about three years. After normal use, it was put to sleep, connected to charger and left over night (just like any other day). The next morning, the laptop would not wake up from sleep. Instead, when pressing the power button, the power...
